I recently read a posting that Unity is working with Nintendo on Wii Support for the Unity Engine. I think this is a wonderful opportunity for independent developers to not only prototype their games for major publishers but build great multiplatform and web-based games all with one engine.
If I develop a game in Unity on the Mac, can I simply purchase a Wiimote and then connect it to OS X?
Is there any information about how to make this work?
Do I need a sensor bar too and does that require purchasing a Wii?
Thanks for the help! I’m looking forward to working more and more with Unity!
as of now, there is a community member working on a Wii mote driver, but as I understand it, it is yet to be released.
As for working w/ Unity and the Wii, you’d need to become a registered developer w/ Nintendo before you could begin using a Wii build of the Unity engine and using official drivers and Wiimote on a dev kit or PC.
Thanks for the info! I greatly appreciate it. For now we’ll continue to gain experience so we can get approved by Nintendo, but that is going to take some time.
I look forward to seeing how the Wii and other NextGen platform support from Unity turns out over time.
Thanks again!
