So right Nintendos most recent console the Wii-U totes claims of full HD but we are yet to see a game that runs in 1080p(That I know of, I couldn’t find information on all the games) but to me this is but a small problem but still, TBH I have some doubts that it will ever see many games in 1080p, now my reasoning for this is not “XBOX ROXXX!!! HALO 4 EVA!” but instead the fact that a first party title from Nintendo that is not complex and should be easily 1080p material in New Super Mario Bros. U and I find this kind of disappointing, really they have all the potential in the word being first party and able to get all the info they could ever want.
This kind of makes me feel that the only thing 1080p we will see is maybe the second Zelda game out like a year before the Wii-U-Me comes out…
Nintendo has never been on the graphics side of things in the modern era. But if they start getting games in 1080p it will for sure put them back on the map as a great game company, and of course software/hardware company.
My personal console ratings over the past few consoles:
N64- 3/5 Had potential, had great fun to play games.
Gamecube- 1/5 Ill be nice and just say garbage for lack of a better word.
Wii- 2/5 Motion sensored gaming was cool, got you active, but most the games they made were better played on the couch. Poor graphics, N64 looked better.
Wii U- 4/5 Better game line set to release, finally a console worth trying an FPS on, still can add a bit more social experience, like Xbox does with the achievements system. Finally headed in the right direction. A console we can now be proud about as Nintendo fans in a good long while. More HD games and we may have a quality console they can live on for awhile and build from. This is what the original Wii should have been.
As you can see by my ratings Nintendo had the console world shaking up with N 64, but then steadily went on the decline and had to live from the portable market with their DS line. But now after all these years Nintendo can get back in contention with the other two.
I still am pulling for SEGA too get off their miserable asses and make Dreamcast 2. I feel that would give Nintendo a competitor, plus SEGA has some great titles under trademarks. Such as famous Sonic franchise, I believe they could even get their rights back to many marvel/DC games, and Mortal Kombat.
Graphics don’t make the games, Nintendo has always been known as a great company. Thats why the DS has been the top selling console of all time for a while now. The wii was a great selling console and now the Wii-U is selling as top console every week. I’ve always supported Nintendo. They seem to always sell, no matter the graphics. Why? Because the gameplay always has that Nintendo vibe. Look at games like Scribblenauts, Pikmin, Mario and Legend of Zelda. Graphics haven’t been on par with current gen games like battlefield and such, but they still sell and are always well received. It’s about gameplay, I loved Wind Waker on GC, many games on the gamecube were great, same for N64, DS and Wii. I guess It’s opinion but I love the Wii-U. I got it on release, with Assassins Creed III, graphics are great, but I also got some non graphically intense games, and I like them too. Just remember, just because a company makes HD games with high quality models doesn’t mean It’s a good game that people will like.
I to think that a great game doesn’t come from the graphics, but I would prefer HD graphics (By HD graphics I in no way mean realistic)and game play over just game play.
The WiiU supports full HD, the demo version of Rayman Legends I played at gamestop a few weeks ago was 1080p (I’m pretty sure it was 1080p anyways), and at consistently high frame rates too. Obviously that could change since the game hasn’t been released yet but it looked really slick. Also remember that the WiiU is more powerful than the 360/PS3 and they run at 720p so the WiiU can at minimum pull off games that look as good.
Well right but my point was that games can look at least that good as a minimum, not that it’s the best it can do. Since the WiiU’s hardware is better (2-3gb ram vs xbox 360’s 512mb for example) games definitely have the ability to look significantly better, we just haven’t seen any really do that yet. I guess it’s more a question of whether developers will actually take advantage of that extra hardware and not go all Wii shovelware on us :S of course that’s a separate issue…
The fact that it can run current gen games no problem to me is actually a big deal. What I’m most excited about is when we start getting ports of games like Bioshock or Dead Space on the WiiU but making good use of the controllers. I mean imagine Bioshock or Half-Life 2 (with better graphics due to more ram->higher resolution textures or more post processing effects) but using the Wii remote as a controller, Metroid Prime 3 Style. Or say Dead Space, using the tablet controller for inventory, in addition to better graphics. Because that can very well happen
Wishful thinking, I’m afraid. The Wii-U wasn’t even the top-selling console on the week it was released. Nintendo held the figures back a bit, so the sales numbers were for slightly over a week, and it sold 400k. The XBox 360 sold 750k in exactly a week. PS3 sold 525k in a week. It did manage to outsell the Wii though, which I guess is some comfort.
I don’t think that is correct, it was exactly 7 days that the Wii-U had sold 425,000 consoles in the US, this is more then the 326,000 of the Xbox 360 and far more then the 200,000 the PS3 sold in too weeks
Ohh, I see you were relating to the week the Wii-U launched.
If a kid(A little herper who trolls the Internet with comments like"PSN, LOL that stands for Playstation Newbz… LOOOOL" or the other is the kind that doesn’t know the Wii-U exists) is like “Mom I want an XBox” she buys an Xbox not a Wii-U
But that is irrelevant by launch standards this is ok, no need to worry yet.
That’s correct. Those sales are all from the week that the Wii-U released. Sorry if I wasn’t clear.
It would certainly be premature to write the Wii-U off yet, but it does need to get traction fast. The only advantage it has over the next consoles from Sony and Microsoft - apart from the die hard fans who will buy any Nintendo console - is coming out first. If it gains a lot of traction over the next year, it may be that most AAA games will come out for all three consoles. If it doesn’t, a year from now, we’re going to back in the situation where Sony and MS’s consoles get the AAA releases and the Wii-U gets first party games, a few exclusives and the odd cut down special version of a AAA title.
Sales for the Wii U will steadily climb as Christmas draws more near. Remember the time the Wii U was launched people had other things to buy on black Friday that they been putting money back for. Any many young kids and or adults still neat that time new little to none about the launch of the Wii U. So it not showing massive sales numbers make perfect sense. Of course in tech heavy society like Japan this would have sold those crazy numbers but were still hillbilly, music heavy, go out and cook on the grill people over here in the USA. did I mention some beer.
Soon as everyone gets some money back together after their big late November shopping and more people catch wind of the Wii U and hows its X’s better than its predacesor, you will see the sales flourish.
Well, in most cases people seem to think that next gen consoles will be only marginly more powerfull but try and market there own “gimics” in order to sell consoles without a loss and be compeditive, were I live the playstation 3 cost $1000 on release and IIRC the Xbox 360 was $700 if the next gen consoles come near this then they are doomed, the wii-u is $424 here but competitive pricing is drawing them down to ~$370(damn I wish I didn’t get my mother to pre order mine she got ripped off for $424) but realistically the next gen from the other companies will be looking at less then $500 my guess is $499.99 or $479.99 with the big retailers getting them down to ~$430 but then what if the Wii-U gets price drops or something… there is no way the consoles of this gen will be as much of a step up from PS2 - 3 or Xbox - 360.
Lets not forget that the “cell” CPU did nothing for the Playstation 3 with millions and millions of dollars behind it I doubt we will see anything like that, maybe something like cuda cores for GPU processing. (IIRC the Wii-U can do GPU processing) but that is as far as the super tech I can see happening.
From what I was researching the Xbox 720 and PS4 both to release at around $800 and the games will be at somewhere around $75 for new releases. At those prices look for the Wii U to stay on top in sales for awhile even if the other 2 bring more power and features to the market.
I still vote for a Dreamcast 2. SEGA really knows how to make consoles. The sega CD, Saturn, GPX 3000, etc. Were all revoutionary software before Playstation. Then again with the Dreamcast. I would love to see a 4 way console war.
