A real big leap for the WiiU, moving from spot #390 to spot #40 on Amazon.
Nintendo must be really happy.
Also looks like Wii and WiiU games that where in way behind spots have moved up.

That percentage isn’t entirely accurate (Amazon lists it as +220%). I think it may also have something to do with the announcement of Earthbound on Wii-U (awesome, btw). Kudos to them; though I’ll wait to see Nintendo’s actual unit sales.
As a Nintendo fan. I am glad to hear this. But some people within a few circles say things may change around E3 as they did that whole reveal so they could get it outta the way and not at E3. As for the WiiU, I believe it’ll be like the PS3 of last generation. Slow start and will bloom sometime later. Sony in my honest opinion doesn’t need a new console because I still think the PS3 is good, even great. But maybe not so for the devs. Ive never been a fan of Microsoft in the gaming industry but yea I at least wish everyone fair game.
Yea that was a shock. Took ya long enough…but yea I’d like to see how they’re sales are doing now.
That probably did have an effect on that spike. At the same time, a single non-mainstream E-Shop Virtual Console title is not going to account for that big a jump. This was definitely an effect of the XBox One reveal.
Microsoft managed to do a good job of appealing to morning news programs and mainstream media. And they completely bombed everywhere else. They took what could have been an easy win for them, and have consigned us all to another console cycle of a fragmented console market. No overwhelming victors this time around.
True. I think the were well received at every outlet they could buy. Sorry, but some of this mainstream media calling the design “sexy”? Someone has been bribed, I thinks.
The mainstream media are a bunch of old people. They have no proper grasp of industrial design. Microsoft made the thing black and shiny, which is the least imaginative method for making it appealing to those unfamiliar with design principles.
The XBox One is not all that bad looking. But it’s not nearly as tasteful as some of the better options. The Vita in particular is a slick piece of industrial design, especially when you get it in your hands. As far as exterior design goes, the XBox One’s conrtroller is a much better example of an appealing bit of tech. And even that has a few errors I could point out. (but they would be nit-picking, overall the controller is pretty solid)
Microsoft has never been very good at case design. This was obvious from all three case iterations they’ve had so far. It doesn’t suprise me they went with the blocky option. At least it’s simple.
I actually love the design… its monolithic, and minimalistic. It looks like it belongs on my media shelf, near my tv. I’m glad we’re out of the mecha-jetsons-turbine era of industrial design for home consoles.
The design is important for visual snobs like me. For the general consumer what they have will be quite adequate. Like I said, its black and shiny. That’s the easy way to make something look slick.
What will be considerably more important is the stability of the hardware. Let’s all hope that the extra size they pumped into that box is going to be used for additional cooling, so that we can avoid another red-ring scenario.
It’s like it belongs on a media shelf, near some one else’s TV, not mine.
It reminds me of the CD-I
Know how my meadia shelf looks in this decade? Like this:
Whoa, look out, guess I’m a general consumer with no taste. Not like I’ve made my living my entire adult life creating visual art or anything.
The Vita does not count, its got a screen, buttons, sticks, etc. It’s hardly comparable. What exactly is your idea of a good design for a console/set top box? and please elucidate why you think its superior.
Sure, it’s black, and the silhouette is similar; that’s pretty much where it ends. Apple TV is nice, but its an absolutely featureless slab with rounded corners. With the exception of the seam in the middle, and the disc drive, the xbone is equally featureless, with some small bevels and vents for heat. It has a nice finish, too. So, do you only put things with rounded corners on your shelf? Is that it?
You missing the biggest point in the design of both consoles.
They were both designed to look like they fit side to side with your contemporary VHS/DVD/Blu-ray (as time applies) players. The Xbox is a box for the masses that don’t care for games. It’s a gamble. They think that non-gamers would never put some game-consolish looking thing on a visible spot near their TVs, but they are also assuming that gamers don’t care how the console looks like. That’s the same bet Philips did with the CD-i.
Another missed point: these devices (not only Apple TV but also the Roku) are nearly invisible by my TV. The Xbox One is catering to a fashion sense that is dying. The future home theather setups will be as easy to hide as possible, things that may make the Apple TV look like bulky and cumbersome devices.
I was watching a podcast and they brought up the point that the xbox-one might not be targeted at young gamers this time because they dont have any disposable income (because of the economy), so they choose not to go for a “sleek” or curved design, probably for focus grouping it revealed that non-core-gamers (people with money) found this design better.
Nice WiiMote
Hilariously, I think they literally tried to split the difference, the console is exactly half matte, and half gloss, and only vented on one side. But I still dig it.
Right, but the Apple TV doesn’t have an 8 core unified APU/dx11.1 GPU with 8gb of ram and the necessary cooling to keep it from bursting into flames. I don’t think the size of the xbone was a conscious fashion decision.
Of course, the number went down after a while since it updates constantly.
5, really.
3 is reserved for the OS… 3… gigs… of ram… for the OS… dafuq
I think it is probably some version of Windows 8 (if not confirmed not)
Hmm well… if it updates too often it explains big increases in sales percentages.
Eg it’s not the same, and more likely, if in tuesday they sell twice as many units than monday… than selling twice as many in June than May. Maybe it’s a gimmick to make it look like sales boosted a lot more and create hype to sell even more. But maybe it’s just me.
