Hi,
I am wondering if the flash exporter Unity is working on will be a seperate product or that it will be included in the free version or in the pro version only.
Is there any news on the flash exporter for Unity?
Hi,

Theres not much news about the flash exporter but i guess it should be included as part of Unity just don’t know when. And molehill is a 3d api for flash. But this exporter is only compile the files as a swf to load on flash player.
It was not mentioned when and in what form it will come.
Its not known if it happens in Unity 3.x at all, if it will be free or pro only or if it will be sold as a new platform similar to mobiles as it is a whole different monster with many limitations that go beyond the limitations on mobile, far beyond nor anything else.
At the time its likely R&D and before Flash 11 is officially out I wouldn’t expect to hear anything at all
Pay any money for this !
I hope not, GAWD, I sure ain’t going to pay $1500 for a flash export option!
Well there will people that would, explicitelly all that stated that they would pay for Linux, at least if their words were meant to be serious and not just hot air as molehill and NaCL are likely for a longer time the only way they will get anything running on Linux
Excellent Pro-only feature.
Why would you need to pay for a flash export when you can export to Unity player for free?
The only case I can see it viable is in a hugely commercial site where people all have flash installed, but have most likely never used Unity player. And I’d rather have Unity web player, as it doesn’t have the limitations that molehill does.
Thats right.
But exactly that point is a strong point, along the fact that molehill can target Linux and over time other platforms for example.
The reason here is clearly the “lighter, no extra install”
Why charge for shadows or render-to-texture?
To pay the bills.
Since the Adobe has clarified that the molehill api is/remain free (just like Flex and AIR), the export function in Unity should also be free.
But, i would be more interrested in an IMport and EXport solution (where both directions are possible).
Would open up quite a lot of possibilities (like advanced menus/animated fully, like scaleform tools alow)
I agree on the scaleform part. Flash is powerful for making 2D animation effects and such. If thats possible, unity will be near perfect for me. ![]()
yep
What? That makes no sense at all. Unity Indie is free, should all games made in it be free? If I write a book in OpenOffice, should I not be allowed to sell it?
should all unity pro apps cost 1500 dollars??? >:@
I’m not sure that passes for logic, Dog. SayMoo suggested that because Adobe makes Molehill free, anything that uses the API should be free. Consistently following that line of thought leads us to anything made with free tools should be free. The short-sighted issue with that is free tools are a gift from the creators, but the labor that goes into them still has value. In the case of professional developers with salaries, that development time also carries significant cost.
In the meantime, some of us will think it is a good feature for increasing sales of Pro, while others will go through all sorts of twisted logic to justify why deserve it for free. Let’s wait and see.
Oh I’m sure that the plaintext scenes and prefabs under VCS enabled projects or likely the Lightprobes will be enough of a “motivation” to get Pro ![]()
With molehill the problem is that the work is beyond anything related to regular free platforms at all. The platform requires more optimization and is significantly more limited than even the mobiles, thats why I personally don’t expect to see it included but happening in form of at least a $400 license. I also don’t see it happen in 2 license forms cause most of the pro features don’t transfer to it reasonably well anyway if at all
That is a pretty good thought, Dreamora.
