I know some things have made it in(instancing) and others are slated to(cinematic toolset), but wondering if there are plans to integrate some of the other features developed in the adam/blacksmith demos into unity officially or if they will forever remain on the fringe? Like modified shader for hair, volumetric lighting, atmospheric scattering? What about Paintjob and TEShard(terrain engine shard?) tools for vegetation?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m appreciative of these little nonofficial releases of these but its a little annoying hunting these things down, as well as when they inevitably break with new releases and don’t get updated.
Based on comments they made in a “making of” presentation at Unite, it doesn’t seem likely. I imagine they learned useful stuff that will contribute to future changes, but a very large number of the changes they made were hacks that were highly specific to that demo. People are already having trouble even getting the demo to build and run, as it sounds like you’ve probably found.
You’ve probably seen it but:
It’s mostly like Black Smith normal maps mixing for details on animations, they didn’t get in Unity as some effect package.
I think those R&D would benefit a lot to be included in Unity as new tools for advanced 3D artists and for high quality graphics projects.
