I am wondering: will unity webplayer plugin 3.x (and not 4+) support windows 8?
Why wouldn’t it.
Its still the same chrome, ie 8 / 9, firefox that run on win8 as win7
the webplayer plugin has no impact on the rest as it is neither metro nor will ie10 support plugins
Well, the current plugin is not supported on windows 8 and IE. While it seemed ok on chrome.
Unity could decide you need to upgrade your plugin to 4.X to run on win8 (it’s a marketing decision).
It works fine in Win8 and IE if you happen to somehow remove the default IE10
IE10 has no support for plugins to my knowledge, means also no Unity webplayer plugin.
And if it had support for it then UT might first need to update its detection and handling to support it as its the case with all new browsers. If they do it they will do it for both though, Unity 3 and 4, as Unity 3 was confirmed to get supported for new platforms in the near future (android, ios, osx and windows)
Also the breaking changes in Unity 4 will make the two require to remain in place side by side for a while.
