Windows Standalone Crashes on some PCs but not on others?

Hi,

Im new here and just started using Unity recently, really loving it!

But i just noticed when i build my project on my main PC at home the exe runs fine - no dramas at all. When i copy the whole built folder (containing the exe and the data files etc) to my friend’s PC it all runs fine also. But when i copy it to my work PC or another laptop they crash (windows faulting app standard crash) before the first Unity screen even pops up where you can choose resolution and quality etc.

I checked the windows event logs but it only gives me the standard ‘faulting app…’ blah blah with some hex stuff

All OS’s on the PC’s are the same - WinXP Pro. Can anyone please help me? I really need to find out why it crashes?

cheers

are you on admin accounts there?
Or did you put it into the documents folder for starting?

Also did you check the DEP configuration in the advanced system settings?

Hi,

thanks so much for the quick reply. Yes, i have full admin rights. I tried placing the folder into MyDocuments\projname (i.e. the same path the project was in on my main PC) and just on the desktop but it didn’t change anything…will check the DEP settings now and post back what happens when i turn that off.

Also interesting there is no log file outputted by Unity after the crash into the Data folder?

I was wondering if Unity required any special directX version or .NET version or anything to be installed? All the PC’s have Directx 9.0c

Video cards all vary though. The PCs that do not crash have higher end cards.

EDIT: turned off DEP and rebooted - no effect, still crashes :frowning:

cheers
