Wingsuit Lite has been out for a while now, it took off pretty sharply early on, we had one advert in it to monetize it, so it never made much money. The pro version we are putting on sale at 69p.
To be honest, in our case the success was a combination of luck, having, what I believe to be, a really strong core game mechanic that’s fun to play, and a lack of quality competition in our game type.
The volume of the success of the free version just happened before we even knew what was going on and that triggered us to make the full paid version.
But yeah, it’s awesome it did so well!
But I can also see how easy it could go the other way and getting lost in the constant flow of apps being released.
We don’t make a great deal from the advertising. We used Chartboost and didn’t place our advert cost too high. We also ensured we only put one advert at the start do avoid annoying the players.
It’s not a good way to make money though, if you wanted to make adverts your primary monetization you would need a lot more downloads or a lot more adverts.
The physics are not ultra realistic, we tried that and it’s just not as fun - real wingsuit flying is very hard. So we made it a little more arcadey.
We obviously have gravity , and you can stall and recover , but you fly a little more than a real wingsuit. Initially we wanted to make a pure simulation but in the end wanting to make a fun game won out.
