(WIP) Cyberpunk Action Rougelite - Elysium Ascending

Hi all, I started my Unity journey about 4 month ago. After releasing two small microgames on Itch, I’m trying my hand on my first steam release. It’s a cyberpunk themed action rouglite, where you fight your way up a giant vertical city.
It’s all in very early stage prototype, but here’s a short devlog documenting the idea and first steps.

wow, this is amazing stuff . . .

the idea is really, really good, not sure you know the old video - game Syndicate, it’s bit over the same stuff . . .

  1. DOS Game: Syndicate - YouTube

Or, the table - top called ’ Necromunda ', or also Shadowrun, it’s bit over the same stuff . . .

  1. Shadowrun Xbox Series X Gameplay Review [Greatest Game You’ve Never Played!] - YouTube

It’s more to give bit references that might be helpful, or perhaps also ideas, think there are Shadowrun RPG - clubs, and they make youtube - videos, usually there’s a quite custom story, also names, or characters, that might make it easier, or perhaps also figure new ideas . . .

Anyway, searched for Shadowrun session on youtube, there’s was a playlist with 100 episodes, it might be easier to invent 100 floors if there was some stuff, or reading, also have to say this is a 10 // 10 golden idea, everybody loves the sci - fi stuff, and you get to invent crazy, or legendary characters, it’s a very good start, or also at least idea . . . .

Thank you Vintage-retro-indie, that’s quite a comprehensive list of resources! I haven’t heard of Syndicate, but I have Shadowrun, will definitely check both of those out.

I have a skeleton plot and a vibe for the world right now. Thought I’d try a slightly unique take on cyberpunk: by making the city the last city of man one giant building after some apocalyptic sci-fi event 100 years into the future. You are a retired ex-mercenary (John Wick type), who came out of retirement to escort a young woman from the bottom of the city to the top. (Don’t worry she is invincible, this is not an escort mission lol).

Thanks alot for watching the devlog, and for your encouragement! I hope it lives up to expectations. Will be posting followup devlogs, and once again thanks for those games you listed. Will check those out for some inspiration

For sure, post the stuff, it’s already amazing . . .

It’s perhaps a bit ambitious to make 100 levels, omg, thought you might need bit ’ random ’ stuff, or what etc . . .

Anyway, there’s a ton of cool sci - fi, or cyberpunk, RPG - streams tend to have very custom stories, that no one has ever even seen, for stuff like Cyberpunk 2077 it’s a bit copy - paste, there might also be RPG - podcasts . . . .

Good luck, and it’s almost on the wishlist already, an amazing idea, do remember the effects // classy main - character

Right now working on a sci - fi also, it’s Cyberpunk Witch - stuff, made four ’ spec ops ’ super - witches, that are something also in the future, it’s on my youtube channel, not sure could post idea here . . . .

Anyway, it’s here over the forum, it’s quite early - stuff . . . .

The title is a bit wrong, atm not sure what to make . . . .

That sounds really cool. I took a preliminary dig through your unity forum, and your youtube link. Wow, alot of content. Looks like you have some very interesting stuff going on. A cyberpunk themed Tomb Raider sounds bomb, I’d totally play that.

Will keep an eye on your channel and progress! And good luck.

#thx, tbh any sci - fi content is cool, and really look forward to see the stuff you’re working on, atm have gotten into bit scope - problems, or wanting to make a ’ Skyrim ’ all by myself, it’s going to take perhaps months to limit the idea, however when that is done, think might have something also very cool . . .

Yeah I totally agree, getting the right scope of a game is tricky. There are often so many cool game design concepts, landscapes, scenes, or characters. But as a solo dev we can’t have it all. A Skyrim sounds incredibly ambitious. I think even a “tiny” Skyrim (like say a “A Short Hike” type of small open world) would be cool to play. Sounds like you have something very cool going on, look forward to seeing your progress!

After waaay to much time, the second episode of Devlog is ready. Here is a deeper dive into some code, implementing Animations, Raycasts, and 3 Hit Melee Combo.
