EPICP PONG PROGRESS REPORT
Yo as title says this will be a progress report of my new game i am currently making “Epic Pong”, as the name suggest it is pong but way more epic hope you guys enjoy it when im done with it but so far this is what i have done so far. Check out my twitter to keep up with development Here.
So far game has more than 10 modes which include (Classic pong,Percision,OnlyGreen,Breakout,Arkanoid,BlackOut,WhiteOut,TopDown pong,Deflect,2V2,Balance and many more.(some some modes below)
This game is still in its prototyping phase so much to add to it and fix and i would like you guys to keep up with its development so stay tuned for updates.
FINALLY!! I think you are the first person to do this. Something I always think new devs will do and yet when its suggested they make pong or any other classic game they respond in various ways and often this is part of their response “those games have been made a zillion times! That’s boring!”.
So yeah… uh… make yours unique then. Make it really YOURS!
Very happy to see you have a good imagination. 10 different modes! That really is pretty epic. Very well done!
Thank you for kind words and that is exactly what im trying to do make pong really mine. Pong is a game thats over 40 years old and has been made as you said "a zillion times! ", but all those times it been made alot were just exact copies with different graphics. I never understood why people did not add some of there own mechanics in there even if they just made it for practice taking the game further helps you learn a lot too. Basically what im trying to say is that pong is ancient but ancient does not mean dead. (that quote though i just came up with it does it sound good? lol)
@Undyinglag is spot on. You’ve done the hard work making the actual game (or rather 10 games in this case). Now focus on the easy and fun stuff. Juice. Polish. Basically just adding a bunch of FX and other crap on screen for every event.
Yea thats on the list right now im trying to get the mechanics for all the modes done then add in the power ups ,levels of difficulty and then i polish the game with explosions and screen shakes cuz who does not love explosions and screen shakes am i right.
We think along the same lines. The only answer I have for why so many exact clones exist is simply a lack of imagination. Although it may sound silly a lot of people seem to have a lack of (good) ideas. Sure they can come up with massive stories and epic game ideas and such but taking an existing “thing” and improving it beyond the obvious graphics and sound seems to be something of a “lost art”.
BlackOut and WhiteOut
Yo let me explain the modes in depth lets start with BlackOut. Just as the game mode states in Blackout part of the screen is blacked out forcing the player to look at the parts of the screen still visible to predict the trajectory of the ball. This mode plays with the players visuals the ball and paddle are already hard enough to see since they are black too and back ground is a super drak color but still light enough to see the ball and paddle. WhiteOut follows same rules as BlackOut but instead of using black it uses white ik shocker right :P; also depending on level of difficulty you chose determines which part of the screen is blacked out or whited out. (Now look at some GIFS of the prototype!!!)
