[WIP] Exit Plans--Top down arcade shooter game

This is my first game I’ve done so well with in Unity (thanks to the help of the community!).

As of right now I’m calling it Exit Plans.

You’re a ship, and there are baddies trying to get you. They’re trying to kill you, you’re trying to kill them. It’s pretty simple, right? What I’ve done to separate this from other games is that you have 1 resource: points. (Original, right?). Eventually, these will get you placed on a leader board but that’s not yet implemented. Anyway, Twist being, these points also buy you upgrades for your ship–AND bad guys.

Controls:
P: Pause/Upgrade menu

Mouse (+Click) to Move.
Q: “Straight shot” (Also, RClick works)
W: “Spray Shot”
E: “Space Mine”

(Wave short cuts; same as in the menu)
A: Spawn easy wave
S: Medium…
D: Hard…

Once you purchase a “Particle weapon” (Guess how those are made in unity…) space bar activates it.

Known bugs: Hard wave is barely implemented and buggy.

NYI: Menus, really. When you die there’s an “upgrade” to respawn. It brings up the Upgrade menu but doesn’t yet really tell you why (assume that you died if you cant unpause).

Finally, please let me know what you think!

We need more health Scotty! It is a bit to difficult to start up, seeing as how you only have 5 health. You may want to look into that. Also, the mouse button, NOOOOOOOOOOOO! The game feels really slow to respond with clicking to move, maybe try arrow keys with mouse to aim? Another thing to look into is the ridiculously long delay between shots, I realize you did not want people to just spray, but you have to give them a short enough gap that they can actually take out the enemy.
What you have there though, is a good solid base that you can build upon and make a beautiful little wave game. I like it.

But that is all just my opinion, most people will probably disagree.

They basically do 1 shot you until you upgrade your health. Because it’s an “endless” game, there has to be high risk–eventually you can’t repair your ship either. (How many people want to play for hours in the same game?). I plan to have other modes though, but thank you for your input on this. I’ve considered raising the health before too.

I haven’t had any complaints about response time yet, so we’ll see what everyone else says.

If you upgrade your weapons it gets much less annoying rather quickly. Have you upgraded them yet?

Edit: forgot to say I have had someone else complain about the controls. But I’ve also had people swear by them just as adamantly as those opposing them. I sense multiple schemes in my future.

Wow, not much was said, huh!

That bad, perhaps?

The controls were frustrating.

Is there a webplayer?

Edit: Oh, I feel stupid. I thought the dropbox link was a download because that’s what dropbox usually is.

Edit 2: AAAGH! How do I get out of the pause menu? It keeps going into it and I have to refresh.

More Health and better controls ( prefably WASD movements ) + restart level button ( we need to refresh the page every time we die ) will certainly do better, keep up!

1: Yup, sorry, could have specified!
2: In my OP: “It brings up the Upgrade menu but doesn’t yet really tell you why (assume that you died if you cant unpause).” Obviously, this isn’t ideal. It doesn’t help that there’s no sound yet, either.

More health seems to be a consensus. I was worried about making it too easy.

If I use WASD How do you suggest I do the three weapon types? Rather, as what buttons.

And I plan on completely redoing the interface and a restart level is on the to do list. There are a lot of things I still want to add!

Edit: And this feed back is good, even if it’s “bad”. Before I had 2 people love the controls and 1 person hate them–now I’m probably going to add multiple control schemes.

As far as health goes I’ll probably add just one point to health at the beginning (giving 2 hits til death un-upgraded with 6 full upgraded).

I played it for all of 5 seconds before I became frustrated with the controls.

Stick to WASD movement please. It’s a bit of a standard for PC games at this point.
