[WIP] Fox Delta Command

Hi everyone my name is Sam from Fox Delta Games. I am proud to show case a work in progress for our current project. Fox Delta Command.

INTRODUCTION

What is Fox Delta Command? Fox Delta Command (formally known as Under the Radar) is a tactical military shooter. You will carry out operations in many locations, playing as a leader of a special forces squad that belong to Fox Delta Command; Which is a low key agency that the U.S. President or Secretary of Defense uses to carry out the operations that will not trace back to the U.S. or its allies. This game is heavily inspired by games like SOCOM US Navy Seals, Ghost Recon, and many more from the past. The goal of this project is to bring back those kinds of games we used to enjoy, and still enjoy from our younger years. We have noticed over the past years that the next generation gaming community and developers have lost its touch when it came to game that made you think, that made you take your time, that made you use tactics and if you happen to plan things wrong the mission takes a big turn and then you have a harder time passing each mission, or even failing immediately.

FEATURES

Some of the features that the game will have is the ability to use a tactical map, so the player will have a better look of the current situation and give command to his/her team. The player will also be allowed to give commands while in the main game by pressing the T key (Current default ke), that will bring up an interface that allows you to give commands that can range from “Fire at Will” to “Move to location”, which will tell the team AI to move to the position the player was looking at with his/her crosshairs/cursor. The game objectives and levels will be laid out in a way where certain actions will affect the mission, and that will determine how more difficult the mission will become, or even the failure of one. We also will build the levels so the player can use stealth and stay hidden from enemies, giving the player a tactical advantage.

HISTORY

For the past 7 months, we have been using Unity3D as our game engine. We have been very hard at work making Fox Delta Command. Currently, we have have finished a playable work in progress (WIP) demo so we can showcase what we have been doing for the past 6 months. That being said, there will be things that don’t seem right or even missing all together and a good number of bugs. The prototype demo mission is laid out in a linear fashion due to the amount of time we were given to use Unity3D Pro 4 for the past 7 months ( big thanks to some of the great people from Unity Technologies, but especially a really huge thanks to Kevin Robertson Unity Technologies) With the time allotted to us for Pro, we have just had enough time to make a level so the public can play, and a fairly simple mission setup that also acts as a test playground for almost every feature in the game.

DEMO

The mission objective for the demo is to take out a most wanted weapons arms dealer, it is said he is hiding in one of the 2 buildings near the location where you will be start the mission. It’s a simple takedown mission that we have set up for the demo; So play it and enjoy! Again this is only a work in progress demo, a ton of things need to be fixed, and all features are suspect to change. So play the demo and let us know what you think!

NOTE: We are currently working on a new level, Once the new level is made, we will release it as a replacement for the prototype demo we have now.

Again we are still working on the project and we are going to update the project with many fixes and improvements.

The typo on “border” have been fixed.

Anyone?

Would love to see a small playable demo on web to play with controls.
Off hand, a couple suggestions would be to make the “squad-commands” real time - So enemies can still spot you, and you have to be tactical about Where you give your orders. Even if you didn’t do that, make sure the ambiance music continues through that menu, really pulls you out of the immersive experience.

Also, I would have enemies drop their guns, seemed weird to watch the enemy die and be propped up by the gun he is holding.

Otherwise, looks like a nice start for a game, be careful not to slip into the generic shooter, so when you set your time for what to really work on, make it cool features like the squad system.

  • Blueteak

Thanks Bluetek, right now everything is still a work in progress, We are planing to change the main menu music to fit more with the actual UI art, and have a song play for the load out and mission over view.

Well I am still was thinking about the team command window as well, few people did point out its best to have it real time, and the more I play the demo the more I might be going to have real time team command.

We are planing to have weapon be dropped when the enemy dies, and apply better rag dolls to it.

We do have a working tac-map that the player can use to give command to the 'team AI" anyone who plays the prototype right now can actually get into it and use, but there is a way on using it, but because I am making the UI art for the game, and going to be making the UI for the tac-map we are not going to work on the tac-map until the UI art is made. The tac map is still buggy and needs a lot of work.

And I wish I can upload a web player, but we are making the game for the PC and I don’t think that the game is made for a web player, you might end up waiting a very long time just for the web player to download the game.

You can download the demo here and play with it your self. http://foxdeltagames.com/fdcomdemo.htm I made a install exe folder using Install Creator free. there is a manual located in the installed folder with the controls.

Thanks again, and I really do appreciate the feed back, my team do want people to tell us what they think, and tell us what will be good to add, change, fix.

Just to give you a heads up we are planing to add a cut scene when the level starts, it will show a chopper flying in and dropping off the team in the mission area. We have plans to add voices to be played in the mission overview so it will be like someone is telling you the mission objectives. Also if you happen to read the mission overview you will noticed it tells you what to do. but Aimie ( a team member) did told me to rewrite it so it have words like “you” “you’re” etc so it feels like the game is talking to the player.

What are you using for GUIs? Looks really nice

Thanks, I used just Photoshop to make the GUI and nothing else.

good news guys. Went out and got the Kinect for 360 and started playing around with it for motion captures, well it seems like it works

This has been awesome fun to help create. I can’t wait to get those mo-cap anims implemented.

Here’s my 1st test of the demo… I feel like a noob. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey everyone, just finished making the new loadout menu for the game. It is similar to the one we have now, but looks better.

Also we just made got a music track for the main menu. So when we release a new build you will be able to hear it

Well, I am going to have to break it sooner or later. Here is a new update of our game. We as a team decided to change camera views for a few reasons. On being that making the game in 3rd person really does take a good animator to animate a lot of the animation for the player to work all together, an other big factor is in 3rd person view you can pretty much see around corners or above cover, in first person you have to actually move with caution, and peek around corners.

Everything else in the game project will stay the same, the goal for the game we are trying to make will stay the same. We will make the game a tactical shooter, the game wont be a normal FPS game where it is run and gun and fast pace. the game will still have you move slowly use tactics and stealth to complete the missions. The map made for the prototype does not really represent the levels for the game, the maps will be open, like what you see in the first Ghost Recon games. We are planing to do a Kickstater so we can get funds to buy a few copies of Unity Pro. Once we dont that we will begin work on the other levels of the game. Also We are working hard to release a new demo that will feature the new first person view.

Here are some early sample of the first person view. Its dark due to the lighting of the level the very first image is just a preview in the scene view not in game view. We are currently working on getting arms and hands, also animations made for weapons.

Sam

Looks awesome, can’t wait to play it

Logo looks like a Dolphin.

nice when comes the web player?
can’t wait to play:hushed:

Thanks  . Unfortunately we are not going to release a web player because the game is not really optimized for a web player, we do have a build prototype demo up on our web site, it can be found here http://foxdeltagames.com/fdcomdemo.htm

Just to let you and everyone know, the prototype demo is that just that, a prototype. It dose not represent the final version of the game at all, it just to show the world what we have been doing for the past year, and show we really do mean business in making this game.

thanks i’m gonna download it:smile:

Well everyone, We are glad to announce that we have just launched our Kickstater. With the money raise will help us buy software we need to complete this project. Please help make this game come to life. We are always happy to talk to everyone about Fox Delta Command.
