Wip fps/open world/rpg

This project doesn’t have a name yet. But here are a couple of features I’m going to TRY to implement. This is kind of going to be simliar to GTA because of it’s open worldness but read the features.

Features:
Multiplayer (Don’t know if I want it to be an MMO or not but it will have some form of multiplayer)
At least 3-5 major cities (names changed of course and my hometown is going to be included)
Able to walk into any building you see.
Everything that can be destroyed in real-life will be able to be destroyed in the game using realistic methods.
Ability to do anything whether that is get a job, travel to all the cities, join the military, etc whatever you can think of.
Leveling up skills
Customize your person
Full interior buildings
Able to interact with the environment
Life in the cities.
More features to come.

Right now, I’m doing it by myself so it’s going to take a long time.

Try to hold off on threads unless you have work to show.

I want people to at least see what’s going to be coming, but it is a W.I.P

The idea is ambitious. Maybe even too ambitious.

I know it’s kind of hard to imagine me doing this by myself and just learning OOP but I guarantee u, I’m going to do it…it just might take 5-10 years but like I said I might get rid of some features

As someone who is in the same boat- no experience other than highschool classes, and very ambitious goals for the project- don’t expect to get anything done in a timely fashion. You will have to work through every tiny detail, some that seem trivial and some you don’t even imagine yet, sacrifice features and optimize, optimize, optimize. Most people give up, that’s why people usually suggest smaller projects to begin with. Since we won’t be able to stop you, good luck, and come back once you have something to show.

I was thinking about taking out some features such as multiplayer…I can always put features in later…but I’m still going to make the game

Worry about multiplayer afterwards. You need to focus on what’s going to be in the game, and what’s not going to be. You can’t simply make a huge free-roam - RPG game.

You also have to think about the programming, the assets, the missions, the environment, the world itself, the various systems, all that stuff.

So please, DO NOT think about multiplayer. Leave those features out of the game. When you have a game done, then feel free to enable multiplayer.

You guys are right…well the true final product will be what I wrote for sure

Don’t get me wrong, but I think your base idea is horrible, you just put some random RPG / Simulator / Open world / GTA elements together, and if you get to actually create this game, it will take you around 5 years, the size of it , is just too big, think about it, you will have to script everything a city contains, from throwing trash away, to turning on a light, I must agree with @EverHeartGames , your idea is too ambitious, get a smaller project. Please do NOT get me wrong, I’m tryng to save a few months of your time…

Thanks for the criticism…but although GTA is a great game it doesn’t have everything I would like to see in the type of game GTA is…while there might be some similarities to GTA it would be totally different and of course right now things will/can change. But like I said you guys are right…I will think about a smaller project.

I actually think its a cool idea. I don’t think you will finish it, but you will learn a great deal and it will probably lead you to some realistic game ideas in the long run.

Thanks I’m just going to work at it and eventually make something playable…alot of things will probably change

Yeah i was thinking of doing this type of game if i ever got to grips with game development and maybe had 10 years of experience under me, then i might attempt some sort of open world RPG game, but not on a huge scale, too much work for one person i think, though it can be done
