WIP Graduation Project

As a graduation project I’m aiming to make small demo, where I focuse on the atmosphere and graphics. My goal is to make a beautiful natural scenary in which the main character is controlled with mouse control from 3rth person view. I try to get rich and interesting environment, so it is probably going to be quite small sized. The second goal is to get two characters in to the demo, one that main character can talk to and for which player has to complete one task, and of course main character himself. As a reward of completed mission the player would continue main characters journey in principle but in reality, the demo ends here.

So far Planned
People

  • Main character: Felix. 13-year-old boy

  • Side character: Stuart. Felix’s bibulous uncle.

Milieu

  • The venue is a beach where Felix’s uncle is keeping his camp. It is summer evening and sunset.

Task

  • To get Stuart to lend his Kayak

My Goals

  • Credible nature

  • Coherent graphics

  • Polished and functional 3rth person mouse control

  • Environment that tells some kind of story

  • Two sculpted and animated characters

  • One could get an clear impresion of characters personalities

Here is a videoclip of my progres so far. I’ve been working on this already for a good while.

Build is available here:

Love the graphics! I think you could work a little bit on the walkcycle, he looks a bit stiff

Thanks! Yep. I’ve been avoiding animating since I got first cycles to work. I’m using Blender and bringin animations to unity as a humanoid rigg has been real pain.

Impressive, I like the graphics as well. I agree with the comment about the animation, though I must say third person functionality looks solid, kinda reminds me of the resident evil third person camera. Keep up the good work. By the way, have you been working in all of this by yourself(models, animations, environment, etc)? Just curious.

Thanks! Yeah, I shoud probably work on those animations in some point. I’m preaty happy on how that camera came out too, though it still has few problems. At the moment it’s going trought objects and I haven’t yet figured out how to fix that without camera getting stuck in some places. Yes, everything except water.

This is looking great!

The environment is looking beautiful. Really liking the camp site alot.
The models are great. The texture work is very well done.
I really like the way you have the text(& text style) for the gameplay.

Some of the grass near the cliff looks like it was placed as a circle.(hardly noticeable though)
Since it’s been said and you know, I won’t go on about animations.

Really good. Keep it up!

Thank you, I will!

Oh jeah, so it seems. Got to do some adjustments. Thanks for a note!

Hi!

After starting this thread I’ve been mainly working on gameplay features. I incluted an action system that allows you to interact with some of the objects in the game world. I also got a first version of side character Stuart ready. On the side I made pretty simple conversation system that is infact based on the action system. You can now also complete a task Stuart gives you and after that you get to leave from the island. Here are some screenshots.

The environment looks great, i really like the atmosphere of it, the shadowed text is cool as well, keep it up!

Thanks! I’ll do my best.

Also what I forgot to say on update was that I’m curently looking for voice actors on this project and I’m really exited from auditions I have so far received.

Cool am looking forward to seeing (and hearing) more!

looks real good i agree with pretty much everyone but an awesome start environment looks awesome

The whole gameplay is now ready and voice acting is also incluted.
Animations are still the same, but I don’t think i’ll have time to redo them.

Looks nice downloading to check it out

Nice work! Apart from the animation issues that people already mentioned, can’t think of anything bad to say about it!

Does anyone else find Stuart a bit… creepy?

Great! Let me know how it worked.

Haa haa

It had good graphics but the camera is a little bit to much offset from the head i like the whole look over the shoulder thing but not that far

Yes, I spend at start alot of time trying to adjust it untill I didn’t really know anymore was it good or bad  Anyway my unity pro trial period is now spent so I will call this project ready although it has some flaws. Thanks for playing and feedback!
