After some serious learning trajects, I wanted to try and work out a dream/Idea I had for a really long time. As part for my game design/modelling/programming portfolio, I wanted to create a first person horror/adventure game. I am greatly inspired by Alan Wake, Dear Esther and Myst,Uru. These are my biggest inspirational sources for this project. To create a small place where the player will sink into the environment and will be overwhelmed in the atmosphere. This of course is not something you start on out of the blue, so I have done my research well. I have 5 years of experience with 3DSMAX and V-ray, and Unity is my newest addition to my knowlegde. I am no scripter, but a visualizer. A story teller. I want to tell you the story, of the Island Of Shadows.
I am a guy of detail so there will be alot of detailed objects laying around. I love small details. They make places worth to check out.
These pictures are all WIPS and do not show the quality that I will eventually work to. Lot’s of issues that I have worked around…Improvised on, and learned about troughout my proces of making things compatible for the real time Unity3D engine. Which is fun, but sometimes really hard. I will come back about the scripting part, as soon as I will create the first realtime parts of the game.
I also wrote the story for the game…but that will unveil itself once things are more produced
For now, enjoy these process pictures. I am currently in 3D internship so I mostly only work on this the weekends. But I promise you, it’s gonna be a good showcase for the Unity engine. ( Which I love ! )
Everything will be baked in V-ray…This is all WIP.
I’m sorry you have to click them… They are in the right order… As you can see, I also found a way to texture huge meshes in 3dsmax like the terrain for appropiate results in Unity. All done with Vertex brushing!
I just started painting the Island. Time taking process, but totally worth it when it’s done. Remember this is all plain and no lighting involved at all.
Textures will include HD normal/bump/displacements later for really making them come to life. Grass will be applied as well, waves, water, everything. Birds in the air, you name it.
Just WIP!
So please keep in mind this is plain viewport quality… I will render some more v-ray pictures when I advance.
Testing some grass I made. Since I cannot brush the grass onto non-Unity terrain I am placing them myself as meshes. Though very low poly, I think it looks okay for now.
So…Is there anyone willing to give me some feedback on this?..or is everyone just intrested in creating yet another Slender game in half an hour?
Short story description
The story starts when you get a phonecall from an unknown man claiming to have known one of your grandfathers who has been never seen right after World War 2 ended. You have been searching for your grandfather for quite a long time since his dissapearance was totally unexpected and rather strange .This man tells you to come and visit an Island that the German’s fortified and conquered from the civillians in World War 2. The island is desolate, lost and cold. But the caller seems to really know what he’s talking about. Somehow…everything is linked to eachother.
Thanks everyone for the kind reactions, I really regard it.
Working on this off and on, Right now I am waiting for some e-mail contact which hopefully will turn out good. I am in the process of gaining rights for using music in my game and the rendered cinematics and the music is just simply beautifull…
Will post some new pictures soon enough, but I don’t want to give away to much of the in-depth area’s of the island.
The story starts in New York, So I’m busy building a condo there to, for the cinematics
No, these are renders made in 3dsmax. Rendered out with V-ray Later on, I will bake every texture and it will look exactly the same in Unity. The water will be animated with this texture applied on it… Then in Unity, add lights that correspond with the texture lighting and voila, a lovely scene I like to use as much information from V-ray since I have to use the free Unity version ( Which I like just fine )
