WIP medieval house

heres a medieval house im working on

I think you need to work on this for longer before you would need any feedback. All I see is a cube with 2 subdivisions and a collapsed cap. I do see some unnecessary vertices on those upper edges though - they aren’t contributing anything to the model, and it’s making your faces n-sided.

yes, more work on it is needed. Just some primitives…

how do make the door way? like how do i make another face, btw im using Wings3D…

I suggest using somthing like Blender its free and works wonders

no, im not gonna use blender, i dont feel like explaning

well your not going to go anywere with wing3d, if u really cant use blender use maya or 3ds(I know they cost money but there are things called trials) :stuck_out_tongue:

This is joke?
Hahaha what a awsome building

PS: Go to Game Art forum like Polycount, GameArtist

Awesome work, it is by far the best art I have ever seen. That composition of box and collapsed cap is marvelous!

I agree with above. There is nothing to give feedback on. If I draw a cube and move a vertice, I will not ask for feedback.

And I also agree that learn blender if you want something free that is good and if that is not an option, well, good luck because it is a great tool once you get used to the gui.

A last feedback when it comes to game art, always center the model. It is now not centered witch means that when you place the model inside unity it will be a little of center all the time

i started over, i made the inside, im going to attempt to make a chimney…

i guess i just cant get anywhere with wings 3d

The book ā€œBlender for dummiesā€ is great for people just jumping into blender with little to no modeling experience. I pretty sure you can get it for like 20 bucks and now they have ā€œBlender for dummies 2ā€ covering version 2.5+.

Or just go here and start searching

It’s better. Three things,

  1. Move the doorway away from the edge

  2. Use some concept art. The best thing to do would be to import a picture of an actual medieval house as a background (not sure if wings supports that, 3ds Max and Blender (I think) do). Model your house after the picture

  3. I’d recommend that you don’t use Wings3D. It is good for getting some basic modeling experience, but you will be much better off with 3ds Max or Blender. Blender is not that hard once you have your ā€œA-Ha!ā€ moment. BlenderGuru is a great site for tutorials.

no, i know how to use blender, it justs gets into other files, i uninstalled it (there was stuff popping asking me questions, i though it was just blender stuff, but no, and it shouldnt get into other files) (and it was blender 2.57) and it deleted almost everything on my comp… and i did look at some pics of medieval houses, but i dont really wanna copy them, just like the same style and stuff…

Sheesh whats so bad about Wings 3D?
So I guess if I make the same model in blender and wings, the blender one is better right?

@wingedfox123 keep using wings 3D. If you like it then that’s what matters.
Its not about whats better, but what you like more. Making things in Wings might be a tad harder and take longer but it is still a fabulous modeling software.

BTW Your house is looking good for a first model.

Here are some good tools to use:
-Inset
-Bevel
-Extrude
-Weld (Vertices)

Good luck.

ok, ready for texturing

Blender rule #1: Don’t uninstall… or else.

Actually, it should be perfectly fine to uninstall it. I highly doubt it was blender’s fault. You probably clicked on something you shouldn’t have.

If you like Wings 3D for its interface, I don’t see a reason for you to switch, but if it is solely because of the above problem, I highly recommend you give Blender a second try.

@warrior1424 It actually does matter what you use…if you want to go somewhere with game design or 3d modeling teams wont let people join if all they can use is wing3d…they atleast want blender, for indie games. If you want to go pro with modeling you’ll need to know 3ds or maya

Wingedfox123 don’t listen to the ones trying to shove Blender or any other 3d app down your trout, wings3d is one of the best box modeling 3d apps out there (better them even blender in the modeling department) and is also the best tool to anyone starting to model.

Also tonyf1121 you don’t need one of the most used 3d apps to make games or even to find a professional job that is something that users of 3dmax or maya use to scare others from unknown or free 3d tools and to perpetuate the usage of industry know tools, i now a guy working at id software that uses modo the Rage levels are made on it, there’s also Bay Raitt that modeled Gollum of the lord of the rings on Mirai a old and now maybe dead 3d tool that almost no one knows (wings3d is based on Mirai by the way). So they are looking for talent if you have it they will not look to the tool you use to make your art. There’s also good modelers using wings3d for a living. here are some examples made in Wings3d.

I think this is prof enough that Wings3d can be used to make professional level models.
