[WIP] Next: sandbox topdown project

Hello guys,
i’m Adre from LevenLab, a small creative agency in Rome.

I decided to start my biggest adventure: i started working on a concept i have since 6 years.
Being an hardcore gamer, i quitted playing online for the lack of decent mmorpgs to play, as i am totally unsatisfied with what the market offers, so i decided to write a “diary” with what i would actually wish a mmo has to be perfect, for me at least.

Now i am starting the developement of that mmorpg, having now more than 7 years of experience in developing, and i will be using Unity because i am working a lot with it for other projects, and because it perfectly fits what i want to achieve.
That game is named NEXT, and the next thing of the title is Age. Can’t tell you more :wink:

I am starting a devblog, and i invite you gamers and devs to read it and partecipate because i really think the project behind Next is really innovative and totally experimental. Something we could not do 5 years ago.

Also, i totally know is not something can be achieved with a small team, and also i do not intend to create all of this. The goal is now to create the core mechanics ( 50-60%), a 2k^2 tile as demo stage, a simple server sync and KS it in mid 2015 if the project will have his fans and will worth the move.

Second update. Since i’ve been in a bit of bashing on an indie forum, i decided to upload a video of what i achieved in the first week of developement.
Assets are not all original, and no one of them is intended to be definitive, as GFX is the last wall to deal with

Hey @adre (fellow Roman here), while I’m intrigued by the fact that you want to do something personal and not simply commercial, I suppose we’re all curious to know what these original features are. Don’t keep us waiting too much. In bocca al lupo :wink:

in the upcoming week i’ll unveil a bit more about the features on a side and a bit about the lore and the macro background on the other one :slight_smile:

I can already tell you that i’ll soon (next week ) implement a seeding system and a life death cycle for the flora.

a tree dies or you burn a tree → the tree will leave seeds in a range, via invisible particles → if the collision hit will get a determined texture value on terrain, will have a random % to create another tree from that seed in the collision point, that will live for 1 month.

That will be a raw system for planting and terraforming death areas for example.
