WIP - Penthouse Suite - architecture

Please note this is a work in progress and does not represent final features or performance. We will be controlling final output so final performance will be tweaked based on output hardware.

The suite is a smaller portion of a much larger project. Really looking forward to Unity 2.0 and some of the features will help out our project immensely.

Modeled and lit in Modo 203. Lightmapping final stuff done in Maya.

Universal Binary ONLY as this is still a test.

Thanks for peeking.

its a little slow on my intel imac but WOW, that’s tight!

a few small things:

-the sink in the bathroom seems to have some artifacts as you approach (looks great otherwise - what shader are you using for that?)

-the spread is so detailed realistic that IMO the sun the water in the shower suffer a bit by comparison - a bit toony for the rest of the scene.

really amazing work, please post the final for me to drool over if you can ; )

Dr. Jones,

TY for the comments. Shower particles… Long way to go, will be triggered when the user approaches… Sun needs work. No sky box yet and the sink is going to have a rebuild. I will look at the shader to see what it is I am using. Trying to get a blue chrome look. Thanks again for the comments and I will post the final and maybe some more WIP as I make some more progress.

Cheers,

G

Very nice. Thanks for sharing that. Quick question (sorry I’m a noob)…I love your reflection on the floor. Is that a Unity Pro only feature…or do I just need to do much more in depth research on shaders?

Very good.

Yes, it is only a unity pro feature.

However you can fake planar reflections in indie quite easily.

I haven’t tried the demo, but your screenshots look very slick. Awesome work!

GaryHaus…how are you getting those beautiful glows on your light fixtures?

Looks great! And it’s nice how certain things like the bed and the glass are not barriers to movement.

(I think the mouse may be way too fast for most users, especially non-gamers.)

Total slideshow on my arcane 1.25 G4PB at the lowest settings. The floor looks fantastic though and the bumping on the ceiling and brick walls is subtle enough to make it work. Why do these architectural demos always kill the framerate? Is it because you bake everything out to it’s own texture/material? Keep on optimizing

Thanks for the comments folks!

Performance wise I am optimizing still some… But, the final spec hardware is a minimum of the MacBook Pro Core2Duo. I created the entire thing running on my 17" MBP and it runs flawlessly. It also runs butter smooth on my Quadro Quad G5.

As for the glows… It is a feature of the software. I just turned the alpha down on all the other shaders so they would have less/no glow.

Mouse speed will be adjusted in final. Lots of little things to tweak!!!

Thanks again for all your comments.

Cheers,

Gary

PS gary - nice quote from the ol pork chop express ; )

Very cool Gary, i love architectural walkthroughs in Unity!

Ran choppy here, 720x480 window fantastic on a MBP 2Ghz with x1600. Not slideshow but intermittent slow (as you know).

Also saw some alpha priority issues with the tree the exterior glass (see image).

Otherwise, when can I move in!?

Is that first gen CoreDuo MBP? Because I got rid of my old one due to the downclocked graphics card. That will make it run choppy! Alpha sorting issues… I have seen it in a few spots… but I don’t know why yet! Have to work on that as well. TY for your comments and for peeking.

G

Indeed it is!

The alpha sorting issue is a common problem with 2 overlapping alphas. Have you checked the wiki to see if there is a user-submitted shader that helps you here? I recall there being info on a solution somewhere.

Looks nice, but you’re not seriously going to hang lights out of God and Adam’s nipples, are you?

Uhhh I hope you were trying to be funny… cuz they aren’t hanging out of their respective nipples. Even the screen grabs don’t have that. Thanks though!

G

Replace that picture over the living room with the Flying Spaghetti Monster version and I’ll buy.

Nice work!

alpha diffuseZ shader on the wiki or the vege 2-pass should solve the alpha issue. sorry, didn’t try the player. if it’s choppy on some of the others, it’ll kill my compy! screenies look very nice tho!

I was trying to be funny, but is it really a good idea to have lighting fixtures hanging out of a painting?
