Hey guys,
Here’s a little project I’ve been working on for a about a week now.
(the amazingly fantastical models are all programmer art, so pay little attention to them)
It’s called Reliquae, which supposedly means “survivor”, but could also mean “the remaining” or a host of other things, it all depends on which website you go to. Either way it sounds kinda cool.
Now before you get all faffy asking if this is just another survival game, let me put you at ease and say, well technically yes.
But this game is slightly different. This game is an asymmetrical multiplayer game.
One player will play as a monster/god/whateveryouwanttocallit, and the other 4 will play as humans.
The players and the monster will all be spawned on a small island (2x2km). The first task is for the players to find each other (they spawn relatively close to each other), and for the monster to find the players.
There will be no direct combat in the game, i.e. the players can’t find themselves some badass weapons and #wrek the monster the first time they find it, and vice versa, the monster can’t beat the living daylight out of the humans.
At the moment the players have to build fires and shelters to keep warm and dry, build defences to keep the monster away, collect water to drink and scavenge for food and all that fun stuff.
Additionally they have to collect building materials to make all these things.
As for the monster, there will be different types. The one I’m currently working on is an ice monster. The players won’t know what type of monster they’re up against until they first encounter it. This ice monster can put out the humans fires, freeze the food caught in the humans traps (meaning it takes longer for the humans to cook it), and even make it snow (seriously increase the rate at which the humans get colder).
Additionally when this ice monster is in close proximity to the humans, the humans will loose heat faster than normal.
The game would be won by the humans if they either survive a certain number of days (about 30 - 40 minutes game time), or if they can find and assemble all pieces to a flare gun, fire it off and get rescued.
The game can be won by the monster if all the players die.
Now although these are possibly the best game mechanics to grace the industry in this entire generation (sarcasm), I feel as if it’s missing something.
At the moment there is little to no interaction between the humans and the monster. The monster can mess with the humans, but there’s very little the humans can do to retaliate. Also, the mechanics for this ice monster are somewhat lacking.
Thus the reason I am here. If you have any ideas for monster or human mechanics, or even different types of monsters and their abilities, pray share them.
As I reckon this could be a fun little game, but as I have the creative genius of a wet KitKat, I’ll need some inspiration along the way.
Thanks in advance you fantastic people,
-Tom
