[WIP] Reverse: Time Collapse - Action - Adventure Videogame #madewithunity

Hi there Unity developers!

We are an indie game studios that uses Unity3D since… a lot
Currently, we’re working on an 3D action-adventure called Reverse: Time Collapse, a unique experience that combines the fast paced action of The Last of Us, the stealth of Metal Gear Solid with the puzzle system of Monkey Island. There are some similarities with L.A. Noire and Shenmue. The game combines exploration, combat and puzzles with an innovative interaction system and multi character cooperation system.
Please, watch the OFFICIAL TRAILER here:

We’ll start a Kickstarter campaign very soon, as the first shoots are really encouraging.
The game entered the Steam Greenlight Top 20 and in the IndieDB Top 20 (out of 35k+ games!) in less than 7 days.

We already published our Made With Unity page HERE

We’ll post updates in this thread on a regular basis, as well as on our development blog

Thanks for reading and let us know what you think of it!!

This is quite impressive! Looking very polished already, would love to see some behind the scenes of this

Thanks Haagndaaz
Yes, you can already check some on our development blog but we’ll surely enrich this thread with behind the scenes as well.

Hi again, Unity lovers!

Let’s go deep into development step by step. Today we want to tell you about the Meangrip team.

We started thinking about the basic ideas for Reverse: Time Collapse 3 years ago for two main reasons:

– we had a great story to tell
– we love making videogames

The main concept was to bring a high-standard story telling, third-person action, puzzle solving, dialogs and stealth sections. Our inspirations were non other that Last Of Us, Assassing’s Creed, Monkey Island and Metal Gear Solid.

The three characters (a scientist, a reporter and a secret agent) travel through time against their will after the Synchrotron accident in 2040. Preventing some events of human history will bring them back in their time.

We started from the plot, expanding the basic idea with some key events like the Roswell accident, the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the Twin Towers attack and Wikileaks.

The engine we chose to develop this game is Unity 3D, as we were already familiar with it… we just needed to form a team!

We got in contact with some of the best artists in the scene:

Shaddy Safady (Last Of Us, Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3) - Concept artist
Ronald Gebilaguin (Uncharted 3, The Sims 3) - 3D artist
Vivian Kair (Assassin’s Creed 4) - Level artist
Tim Besamusca (The Secret Circle, Jersey Shore) - Composer

If you like the game, VOTE US on Steam Greenlight! We’ll soon be on Kickstarter, so please subscribe to the NEWSLETTER on our OFFICIAL WEBSITE to stay tuned about it. See our official trailer on YOUTUBE.

Thanks for reading

Not to take away any of the effort already put forth on this project, but to me (just a artist) the gameplay and visuals in the trailer have several layers/passes of polish still needed to reflect the expected level delivered by the top quality talent behind this title.

Everything just seems a little unpolished - imo, but functional.
The three most notable points for me that stand out as needing attention are;

  1. Lighting of pretty much everything looks - marginally alright. I think this is one point where increasing the visual fidelity of the lighting will increase the visual quality of everything else.
  2. The car controls/physics look very stiff and linear.
  3. The character is forgettable. He seems like one of the guys you see walking in a parking lot that you will never see again and would not be able to remember his face if he was in a murder lineup and you had to finger the murderer. I guess - maybe he looks just - kinda normal.

One extra point - The world seems a little bit under populated with people. I think this is something the team is probably aware of - but wanted to mention anyway.

Looks like a lot of effort has already been done and it’s obvious this isn’t a finished piece - so don’t take this feedback as negative criticism. Its constructive feedback.
I’ll keep this on the radar to check back when there is a substantial update.

Hi theAnimator2b,
thank you for your feedback.
The video is a in dev trailer. We didn’t write it in the video and we did wrong.

  1. the lightning is not calculated yet in the video. We’ll calculate it in the next dev trailer.
  2. Yes the car physics will look better, that one it’s an old video we shooted 1 year ago.
  3. attached there is the face of the character

extra point: yes, we are working on the AI and it will be really populated.

We’ll publish a new video and the Kickstarter page.
And we hope in further feedback from you!

I forgot…the New York video parts are old 1 year. We hadn’t the time to shot and update that in unity 5.4

Quality output on the character - though imo he’s just an every day guy - nothing special or memorable about him.
Maybe adding a huge scar or possession mark/tattoo or something distinguishing would give him more of a memorable look.
The quality is evident in the detail maps spec/normal and faked sss.
The sss shader or map - seems to be a little over done in the ears and the eyes - which makes him look like he is either hot or overly tired. Cool effect though - one not seen very often.

There seems to be some slight (white/grey) artifacts directly under his nose and in the middle of his chin in the sole patch area. Other than that - high quality character, with very nice detailed maps.

Thank you for the feedback. We’ll fix what you said.
Anyway in Reverse Time Collapse you play with 3 characters.
This is the second one (it’s not the final render):

The game is looking good.
I noticed the bloom is too intense in the video and i don’t like the car rigid movement camera because ( a smooth follow camera would do better).

Thank you @zenGarden . Yes we are improving both the aspects

This is a screenshot of the main character

In our game, we are designing a new type of gameplay: The overtitme gameplay (we’ll unveil the specs really soon.
One useful tool that let you solve puzzles is the Timegun (screenshot below)
Let us kno what you think about the Time Gun!

After just 3 weeks and withouth any kind of advertising, we finally had our game Reverse: Time Collapse approved by the Steam Community. I’m happy to announce we’re finally GREENLIT and we’ll have the chance to publish on Steam as soon as the game is finished! We need all of YOU to complete the game, as we’ll launch a Kickstarter campaign soon. If you like our game, please subscribe to our newsletter at www.rtc-game.com to know when to back the project!

After the Greenlight on Steam, we’re working hard to improve the game experience of Reverse: Time Collapse and make it better and better!

We just added this new entry to our development blog, this time about music

The amazing theme composed and arranged by Tim Besamusca (Jersey Shore, Audi ads etc.) is something we listen to every day, it’s so addictive!
