[WIP] TapTapDash (Mobile Game)

Hey Guys,
I am working on this little mobile game for 3 weeks now and just wanted to show you my ideas.
Im happy about every feedback.

Mechanic:
Very easy: the character is moving automaticly, you just have to tap your screen at the right moment, while your character is on an direction arrow. If you tap too early or too late, your character explode.

The gameplay idea is nice for a casual mobile game. And the animations and graphics are cute.

One thing I would consider though, is changing the name.
“TapTapDash” sounds like a really generic mobile game title. There are a lot mobile games with “dash” and “tap” in the name, so you might get an issue with discoverability with that name.

Name is still a placeholder :slight_smile:

Implemented a new mechanic: jump on ladders.
On this gif it looks a little bit dirty but its allready fixed.

But I’m a bit confused. I just saw a game called Dungeon Runner on Steam Greenlight, which uses pretty much the same graphics as your game.
So are those freely available art assets from somewhere, or is Dungeon Runner also your game and you reuse the graphics for this game too?

You can buy these graphics with a license. Im not an artist so i bought the assests. Some things are done by me. And of course the coding is completly done by me.

Aren’t the coin icon and pause a bit too big? I mean, if the character is most important, than those two things looks more important than him… :confused:

Dungeon Runner does looks good, as does this game.
I’d suggest replacing the main character with a custom character. A good pixel/sprite artist could create a custom character from a good description your provide for a very reasonable price.
The benefits of a custom main character far out weigh the disadvantages of having a stock main character.

Control scheme is also interesting - Similar to Hardkour.

yeah, that sounds good. Assuming the pause is touch friendly and its easy accessible on that corner. And the coins will be clickable as well? I mean, for buying more coins or other IAP stuff :stuck_out_tongue:

Unless those things are more important than everything else, hehe :slight_smile:

Now the pause icon looks made in vector instead of pixelated (with shadow as the coins) and a bit bigger than the coins as well. But this is a small detail, thou :slight_smile:

Today I will try to implement a “trail”, like a rainbow, which follows the character.
Then I can create variations to set up a shop for them.

This is just a thought, but to me, the explosion in every scenarios feels like lazy work.

If you go the way theANMATOR2b suggested, and request help from an artist, possibly you could have him do bang against wall/trip/fall animations and then make each arrows responsible for broadcasting which animation should be played. Sure it’ll involve a lot of polishing work to give it a nice touch but it could greatly improve the player’s experience, imho anyway.

Quick edit: Felt the need to edit since the post sounded negative overall. What you did is great. Don’t see this as a your game is bad comment, it certainly isn’t. I’m just giving you my thoughts on what I, personally, believe could improve player’s experience.

Hey, the explosion is some kind of placeholder. When I implemented the character I just looked for something easy to let him die. To chose the death animation by arrow should be easy, because every case got his own tag.

I will save this comment under my “Polish your game”- List and I hope I will do this !
