[WIP] X-Shooter (Tentative title)

Since I’m a bit inexperienced with Unity I decided to stick with basics before trying something too advanced. So, based off the Schpooter tutorial, I made a side scrolling shooter.

Instructions:

  • Spacebar for shooting
  • Z button for firing missiles on Level 2 3
  • Arrows for moving

Any comments, questions, concerns can be posted below.

change the buttons to something more usable, like X and C. pressing alt on pc brings up the file menu in my browser.

too many asteroids. kind of an annoyance rather than real challenge.

check out the enemy patterns and behaviors from other games, such as r-type, and try to incorporate those

not a bad start though, but you have a lot of work before it would be fun.

Had a quick playthrough, its a great start, but…

-It was far too easy. The player can just sit in the middle constantly shooting and not get harmed.
-Missles were a pain to use because of browser shortcuts (Internet Explorer).
-In the second stage, the stars in the background got really distracting. I felt more like I was in a snowstorm than space.

Keep up the good work!

I was going for a hyperspace feel…meh, I’ll change it anyway and save that setting for an actual snow storm level.

Updated version has been added,

  • Missiles are fired with Z button instead of space after the second level
  • If you beat the third level you move into a boss fight.
  • No more sitting in the middle or back row to save your butt. Move or be stoned to death.

Again, list your comments, suggestions, and complaints.

Updated the first post with latest download, making a few minor changes that are probably unnoticeable.
Give feedback if you play.

Nice work.

Looks a lot like a game I made for the iPhone called Ax-Raven Elite

Cheers!

No, Your game is a lot better visually and is a true side-scroller. Although we should talk more about it another time.

Replaced link. Made small updates.

That was a fun little game!

Have you thought of selling the source as a Starter Kit for other developers?

It looks like it’s got some useful scripts for other authors.

I originally learned from another tutorial and built, altered, and refined it from there. I wouldn’t feel right selling it.(Conscious makes for a bad partner in business.)

On the other hand, the sequel will draw from my personal coding…
