Alright Guys, I have been hacking away at a “Dirty Version” of my latest android game “Word Rock”. Word Rock is a puzzle/rhythm Game where players go head to head to see who can spell the most words. This is strictly a demo with all place holder art and very rough animations. This is to help me get a feel for what I am trying to accomplish. I am building this on the kindle fire so the game is setup for that resolution (1024 x 600). The music in the game is just for this post and will be removed at midnight since I don’t own the rights. Custom music later. One of the biggest things missing is the fact that once you spell a word another set of blocks replaces the ones used. The player has to spell as many words as possible withing the time limit.(which is set to 60 seconds for this beta) Also, the avatar shop is not up yet. Later players will be able to purchase everything from mascot heads to clothing. Anyhow download link at the bottom. Input appreciated. FYI I am also looking for a programmer to help me with the coding so I can focus on the art.
Oh, don’t trip about the music(not in final game) or the rigging of the avatar. I did it just to get a better visual. Storyboards only take you so far.
This is just a shot of the avatars. I am planning on using a male and female base model. Each model will have gear that can be bought separate in the avatar shop. As you can see one of them has on head phones. These are in the first stages of development.
My internet goes back to 1997 on weekends so I won’t be able to download this today. But I’m curious, you say it’s a puzzle/rhythm game but the description doesn’t mention where the rhythm part happens, just the word hunt.
I just played it through, I like the theme to it, I think it could be a really great on the go puzzle type of game but there’s just one thing bugging me.
Avatars - Is their any purpose or interaction with them ? I get the dancing on the side to the music bit, but I don’t get why you would need to customize them or even have them there at all , they could easily be replaced by the singer of the song that will play or a scenery at this point. If you’re keeping the customization, I personally suggest non-paid point or coin usage.
As of right now I am in between ideas about how to implement the rhythm portion of the game. The idea is still up in the air right now. The avatars are more of a novelty thing to help personalize the player experience. I do like the idea of the coin usage. The avatar shop is going to feature alot of fun things such as costumes, accessories, bonus music more.
I will publish a web build in about 30 minutes. Also the build is kinda dark because I kinda threw the lights in to test how they looked. Right now I am working on the background and trying to find a way to implement lasers and things in the background. Kinda going for the rave feel.
For now I am removing the rhythm portion of the game and focusing on the user customization, puzzle and social aspect of the game.
The ideas I tried just don’t work like i thought they would.
