I just wanted to gauge if there is interest in a 3D softbody system, or other aspects of elasticity. What I have in mind is a system that would take any collider, subdivide it into little springs, and make it respond to forces and collisions like a soft (or hard, stiff) elastic material. In the image below, I show 2D examples like a cube hitting the ground, a rod buckling under its own weigth, and a rod buckling under compression between two walls.
Please let me know whether there is interest in such a system, or other aspects of elasticity, by filling in the poll and commenting.
Thank you Dabeh! What kind of application do you have in mind? Rods (i.e. long extended elastic things), thin sheets, balls/cylinders, more complicated geometry?
The wings of a wing suit would be an application I’d have in mind, so I’d like to be able to set the outside points on it so they’d go between the arms & legs etc.
I think the best thing to do would be to add it to the asset store and promote it. Honestly, I have no immediate plans for something that would use this, but you never know what would be useful in the future.
