Would it be good idea to make small simple and basic assets?

Hi

I have been thinking that it would be nice to have small assets that do one thing in simple and good way. I had this idea when I was looking script that would pan camera in RTS style. There was assets for whole rts games, but didn’t find asset for only moving camera way I wanted. So I ended up googling and find script that did somehow what I wanted and edited it for my purposes.

There are questions that seems to pop-up frequently here in Forums and Answers, people asking how to make same things over and over again. So if there was asset for example menu that pop-up when you hover over object (in 3d space) people could link to that instead of an coding example.

Assets should be targeted both noobs and elites. Documented well and full instructions how to use them, I mean there could be image/pdf how to use asset with every step almost from creating an empty scene. But assets should also be well coded and versatile, so people who know how to code could still use these assets for saving time.

It would be good coding practice to make those, and verify in forums that it is well coded

And I think those assets should be free.

The more the better Imo. But remember that rule of the asset store when making one.

I had the same problems there are some specific RTS games but not a generic library. I ended up getting a camera working and basic placement via tutorials and experimentation. I actually had started a system where you could build walls and rescale buildings and the walls would regenerate to fit the new base size but I was having issues so I put it on hold.
