Would This Be Stupid?

Okay so i need to raise money for my game, would it be dumb to make a SIMPLE model and put it up there for like 3$? just to raise some money?

I would say that it probably wouldn’t help you raise much money, if any. From my experience, people tend to want things that will save them a fair amount of time, thus simple things are not usually very desirable. Sometimes you can’t even give the stuff away. I believe you would have better luck if you focused on some nicely made “general purpose” objects (tanks, jeeps, guns, etc.). Or even better, put together a nice collection. Like most things in life, if you don’t put much into it you’re unlikely to get much out of it.

Okay i will use your advice  thank you

Yeah, make a whole set. The more you work on it, the more valuable it will be, and even more people will buy it!

You would need to sell 33 to make $100. Now are there really going to be 33 people that want to buy it, maybe over a long period of time but not likely. You might be better off selling something for 20 in which case you would only need 5 people to buy it.

You can see on activeden the numbers are not very good, the teleporter only sold 3

Why do you really need to raise money for your game (ask yourself that honestly)? I guess you already have a pc/mac and unity, that should be enough. If you are thinking about buying assets like models etc, you will be wasting your money as your game may not get to the stage where you actually need them. If I were you i would get a nice prototype working first with what you have. For instance, I am now at the stage where I am adding AI, Pathfinding and a cover system and I still have cubes for NPC’s.

If you need money to buy a pc/mac etc… well that is a different story (maybe)…

Regards,
Matt.

Not to BUY assets to buy better equipment like MAX and everything to make better quality stuff

are you a student? You can get a free 3 year licence for max 2011 and maya from the autodesk website if you are for non-commercial usage.

Yes i am, But i asked my school to email them certification and they said maybe then never answered me, my school is rude.

I purchased a medieval model pack (I’m not making a medieval game now, but sometimes keep sets of stuff on file for whenever) 58 models for $30. The models were interior model sets not buildings. Some of the models were pictures to hang on the wall, chair, table, rug, candles, axes, etc, so they’re not real complex models.

Also take a look at sets like this http://terminal26.de/and what they go for.

I prefer to purchase model packs and will purchase them even if that’s not the type of game I’m making now, because I might want them later.

I hope that gives you an idea of how many for what cost.

Okay but yea thats why i cant do the student thing for that one thing

My school wont do it but how do i get this affect on my plants? Shader? or partial affect?

put it on Turbosquid

Ask on the shaderlab section

I think it may even compromise you more serious game, specially if it’s the same theme, be careful.
