Would this type of measurement be possible?

Hi there guys

I have a unique idea for an app, but it involves pretty precise and small readings from the accelerometer. When I say precise, the phone is going to be moving up and down at a reasonable speed, but the distance will vary between 7cm (2.7inch) and 1cm(0.4 inch). would this be possible for the iPhone to take accurate readings?

yes, you have to calibrate ur device a lot tho. And do a whole lot of testing

Does this mean that the user will also have to calibrate his /her phone using my app. Do I need to build in some for of calibration system?

Rotating or moving phone a bit will change acceleration vector and it won’t point 100% down so it will be hard to detect 1 cm movement.
