Wow Mudbox 2009 coming to Intel Macs

Way to go Autodesk (never thought I’d say that) they are bringing Mudbox to OSX in February.

Let’s hope that lights a fire under Pixologic’s arse!

Cheers.

Seriously! I was actually very interested in Mudbox when I heard this, but sorry, I don’t deal with dongles or locking licenses to ethernet cards.

First time ever using that emoticon… this is huge!

Announce 3DS Max for OSX and I might have a heart attack

Since ZBrush for OSX is out and I actually got to try it (and it performed way better than under Windows) I’m not really interested in Mudbox any more. It’s way more expensive, as well. So yeah. I rather hope Autodesk doesn’t want to buy Pixologic soner or later. :-/

The dongle hasse shouldn’t be any worse compared to the activation problems Zbrush had during the week(s) of its release on OSX. Activating ZBrush was by far the most annoying process I’ve ever encountered for any software so far. I’d prefer dongles over activation and deactivation of software anyways.

Hi!

It seems that Zbush 3.12 for Mac is broken. It can’t export normal maps correctly on OSX. Works fine under windows. It’s going to be repaired but shame on pixelogic for releasing a broken product!

This bug breaks one of the main features of this software and this shows how much effort they put in their products for the mac. Bravo to Autodesk for bringing Mudbox to the mac! Competition can only help!

Here is the thread concerning the problem:

Well I actually never really created Normalmaps within ZBrush anyways as the results weren’t as good as with other applications.

I either used XNormal unter Windows to bake highres to lowres meshes or Blender for the simpler tasks. XNormal got the better results, though.
It’s also possible to do this from within 3DSMax or apparently Maya, too. I don’t own these programs personally, though - so I’m not too sure about the quality.

We’ll have to se what Mudbox will be capable of doing in terms of polycount but the price is a big turnoff for me, already.

And modo.

Cheers.
