Is it possible to turn of color writes and only render to the depth buffer? The effect I am trying to perform is drawing a mesh to the depth buffer so that it occludes meshes behind it except for a background image (which I am currently drawing at the far plane). I know order of drawing will be important as well is there any way to control that to get my desired effect?
