WWW class with PHP and MySQL for mmo a good approach?

I got a rather interresting question to ask/discuss.

compared to a socket server, how well would a setup of the WWW class, PHP and MySQL do
for a mmorpg?

my approach for handling server side events like npc movement or similar would be to use
a “god” client that basically works as the server’s client.

(I’m also aware I could be using MySQL directly from within unity, but I wouldn’t want to compile the connection info for my database into the client executable)

any insights on this subject would be appreciated

This can’t be answered since it completely depends on the user counts and the type of game. Depending on the type it’s extremely different what amount of data and what send-rate you need want.

The only thing i can say for sure: Never let a client directly connect to a database.
