Hellow everyone, I am having a problem importing modeld in the .x (DirectX) format. Please help! Thank You. ![]()
Well I donât see any indication that the .X format is supported.
http://unity3d.com/unity/features/asset-importing.html
So that could be the reason.
right, you canât import X
you will need to convert them or export them again in a meaningfull format, not one from a decade ago
well i have tried to convert it in blender, wings, and other applications but it wont import correctly. can someone help?
No because youâre giving incredibly vague and unhelpful descriptions. If I went to my Doctor and told him âI feel icky. Can you help?â you can probably guess what heâd say.
Youâre the one who needs help. I shouldnât need to work so hard to get you to tell me precisely what youâre doing, precisely what happens, how that is different than what you expected, etc. You should be falling over yourself to tell me as much as you possibly can.
im really not shure of the problem is the thing. when i try to import it into blenber sometimes i get and error saying it cant import but usually it just doesent show up and when i look at the black window (i know it has a name i am just blanking out riht now) behind it it says
âimporingâŚ
finishedâŚâ.
when i try to import into wings i get an error message telling me it cant import. please help!
Honestly, this is like pulling teeth. If I didnât have a lot of free time this evening, Iâd have given up by now.
Ok, so in fact youâre not having trouble getting the models to import into Unity, youâre having trouble getting the models to import into Blender and Wings. Where did the models come from? How can you be sure that the models are even valid? What application(s) have you successfully loaded them into? What format were they originally in? Are you using the .X format to import into Blender and Wings? Is it the binary or text versions of the .X format? Is it an animated model or static? Have you tried importing them in other formats? What other modelling software (if any) do you have access to?
Wings only supports the following formats:
- Nendo (NDO)
- 3D Studio (3DS)
- Wavefront (OBJ)
- FBX (on Windows and Mac OS X)
- Adobe Illustrator 8 (AI)
- Lightwave/Modo
So if youâre still using .X (and Iâm assuming you are until you provide more information) then itâs no wonder that doesnât work.
i can ude any free 3d modeling program/converter for windows. i originally got the models from fps creator program and i was able to use them in fps creator. there are 2 versions of the model the pickup model ((just gun no hands) which i have no problem opening) and the first person view models (the ones that are animated with hands)whitch i cant import. I donât know how to tell if its the binary form (i can post one of the files if you think it will help), it might be the text form because you can use notpad to open them but you get a lot of the little boxes for invaled charicters.
science i am not good at animating i didnât want to do through all the hassle making new animations that look good. please help! (p.s. wings can import .x files)
Right, well it appears as though the fourth reply in this thread contains the information we needed in the first.
Wings advertises that it loads only the formats I listed. It explicitly lists .X as a format it can export so if it really can import them, itâs a surprising omission. It would sound as though .X importing is patchy at best if theyâre not advertising it. In any case, Wings does not do animation of any kind so I donât think your chances of importing animated models are good.
I would suggest that the Blender forums are a better place to ask about importing animated .X files into Blender. (It will help if you include all the information when you do that.)
Iâve had a lot of success with Accutrans3D when converting models, but Iâm pretty sure it wonât read animated models either. Gile is quite good for format conversion too, but again, it doesnât do animation.
Try Truespace 7. That used to have good format support before Microsoft killed it. I think itâs still available to download, however.
I recently converted some FPS Creator .X models into FBX models using Ultimate Unwrap 3D. They work perfectly in Unity afterwards.
Thank you sooooo much! but is there anny other way to save it as a .fbx without buying?
Donât know. I honestly donât think itâs possible to create something worthwhile completely for free, and I donât really think any of us should expect to. If youâre serious about what youâre doing, eventually you have to commit to it and make a bit of an investment. Being frugal in our case just means VERY carefully selecting what you spend your money on.
How did you get on with Truespace 7?
