Xbox 360 Support Necessary?

Newer generation consoles have been out for three years now.

Production of the Xbox 360 have even stopped.

Is it really necessary to support Xbox 360? Some people may ask “Why not?” Well, one reason to stop supporting Xbox 360 is because the price of the engine (Pro and Plus memberships) will most likely cost more with the support of more platforms. I feel as if this cost difference is very unnecessary, since no one is really developing for Xbox 360.

Some big publishers are no longer starting new projects, I think, but there are still many games on the way. With over 80 million of each console out there, it’s good money for them. A small developer might have trouble supporting as many platforms, so focus on the current ones. Some even start with one console at a time and port to others if sales are good.

What makes you think no one is developing for it anymore? Even if Xbox one is out there it does not mean everyone will buy it and trash their old console. It’s still huge target audience to sell for. Look how long PS2 lasted.

In all fairness, the Xbox 360 is no PS2.

I would imagine supporting 360 is still part of the arrangement with Microsoft. The two companies are still fairly friendly.

And I still have a 360. There are still tons of consoles out there.

And the amount of releases for them probably is so low, that this might be a low competition market compared to steam or iOS.

Microsoft may even be funding it themselves.

For me I still get plenty of play out of second hand games. Anyone buying new releases has probably brought a new console by now.

But the fact that those games are still supported is important to me.
