Your first game

So my question is: The first game you ever finished, big or small did you make all the scripts yourself? Did you get helped making the scripts on the web? Did you ask for the scripts?

Unity games or all?
My first ā€œgameā€ was a text based game. I made everything with C# by myself.

My first Unity ā€œgameā€ was a First person shooter. I bought UFPS from the asset store and made a few levels. I decided to call the ā€œgameā€ Ultimate first person shooter.

I do not remember very first unity game, but I do remember how my very first game ever made was. Basically it was a remake of the super mario games, but with a little skeleton as the main character, 2D made in GameMaker. I did make all of the scripts, but of course, with the help of tutorials. I basically used diferent parts I practically copied from the internet in order to assemble a game. So I’d say, yes , I copied a lot of the scripts from the internet, but happy for me, that’s past : )

Pretty good for a 14 years old, im 15 myself, been playing with unity in 6 months and just started scripting java

Thanks for saying that, im just scared that i wont learn it all and just copy scripts. I do know basic scripts and some other things but advanced things like a character controller is really hard i think.

Cool. I know this is off topic but I tried to use unity just when unity 4 had come out, but I didn’t get a thing. I tried to modify the Angry bots project, but didn’t get what anything was. I decided to quit.
I started using unity again after about 1-2 years. And now I know alot about the engine.

Thats actually the same for me. I started in unity 2 years ago with my friend, and played with only the terrain for a month and quit. (we expected a lot of our game)
6 months ago i started again and i pretty much also know most of unity, and i really love the new 2d functions with 4.3. And just a week ago, i began scripting javascript/unityscript.

LOL I borrowed the ZX81 programmers guide from a ā€˜rich’ friend and wrote my first game in a school exercise book, I think it was a maze game.

I wrote my first game on the Timex version of that machine. Those were the days! Had to prop up the memory expansion pack with a paperback book or it would disconnect. Switching to the Commodore 64 seemed like a dream at the time!

Programmed everything myself.

The web did not exist. We sometimes used these things called ā€œbooksā€ and ā€œmagazinesā€, but usually had to learn everything by trial and errror. We used to call it ā€œEmpirical programmingā€ā€¦ Code/observe/Code/observe…

First ā€œgameā€ was Hangman, I think. Done a ā€œfewā€ years ago on an Amiga 600.

Wrote everything on my own and no the tinternets didn’t really exist then. It was the mash your face into the keyboard until something worked kind of thing.

It was a sort of space ship game where you were diving into deep canyon that kept getting more narrow. It was the first complete game I made with the full game loop, not just mechanics. (which is all I had done before). It was in basic/ml.

Text-based rogue-like programmed in BASIC in the mid 80s. Worked on it with everyone in my advanced computer programming class - all three of us.

The first I made was a TRON game in BASIC. Two player, each person controls a pixel line, and tries to smash the other. Good fun.

My first game was written in AmigaBASIC. You controlled a bird that had to dodge fireballs from the side of the screen. Over time the fireballs sped up and it was harder and harder to dodge them.

My first Unity game was Cubenaut. You control an astronaut through a 3d maze of a space station (50 levels progressively more difficult) to find and repair all of the leaks. I wrote all of the scoring, movement, and collision scripts and modeled the character as well as designing the mazes, but I used a GUI plug-in, an in-app purchase plugin in the first version, and some freely available music. The sound effects of him colliding with the walls was all me though

First game I have no idea, First Unity game was Cubey. 2 weeks of developing with me and some guys. June/July 2012.

Ever? This gem, made in Gamemaker when I was about 8 (give or take a few years) (it’s been so long I can’t even remember when I started).

In Unity? My FPS, Paragon Evolved.

SHMUP: Orbital Combat, in my signature.

EDIT: If you mean all-time, I made a quick little RPG battler in QBasic called Arena that has been lost to the ravages of time. QBasic was what got me started with programming.

Crappy buggy platformer in C++/Allegro

I love the amount of guys starting with BASIC, those were the days. My first game was in 1986 I think in BBC Basic, it was a text adventure of a sort, i had no idea what I was doing really but I did start a lifelong habit in writing very bad games that were deceptively entertaining for the first 30 seconds

First game? Can’t remember back that far, but it was something super simple on the C64.
