Hi, I just wanted to let you know that you can ask me any questions you want about graphics on one of my own threads. You don’t have to be customer or anything. I feel like our conversation is taking over the Game Kit Controller forum thread and it’s getting a little off topic.
As for your most recent questions, HDRP reverts to Built-in when requirements are not available. Built-in is awesome and will always be useful. I personally am not working on a single project in URP outside of providing support for it on assets I create.
You can switch pipelines pretty easy. The more materials you have to convert, the more time it can take. Taking an asset from Built-in into HDRP is the easiest and cleanest conversion to do. Go to Edit > Rendering > Materials > Convert All Built-in Materials to HDRP. This works really well as long as the assets from the original built-in pipeline use the standard shader. Custom shaders like water and such usually will NOT convert, so you have to manually replace them. I’ve done this process at least 50 times on different assets I’ve created.
Don’t try to convert from HDRP to URP. Not worth it. Just use the default pipeline (for now at least). It’s more stable and chances are you have more assets that support that than URP. Again, HDRP reverts to Built-in not URP, so that’s a big reason right there to just skip that middle option for the foreseable future if you want to have an HDRP game that can still run on older machines.
I have Enviro 3 in couple projects. I also used their predecessors. The performance is pretty good using my atlased assets in HDRP on a big 10x8 km open world. Anyways, if you ever have any questions about graphics and pipelines, that is one thing that I know pretty well.
The above is the forum thread for my main asset bundle. It would be better to ask me specific questions about my area expertise there. I enjoy your input and questions and look forward to seeing how your project turns out. Happy to help just ask! I am eager to help and possibly earn some new business if I’m lucky!
Best Regards,
