ZBrush’s new UV Master plugin works pretty well for organic meshes. It works on mechanical type meshes as well, but doesn’t do nearly as good of a job as doing it by hand.
I’ll second this! Plus a few strokes of the brush and you’ve told ZB where to split and where not to split…it’s really the most awesome UV Unwrap I’ve seen, and that’s on top of everything else.
Once GoZ comes out for Windows, and plugs straight into C4D I’ll probably end up ascending or something
You guys do know it’s just pelt mapping right?
Every other app also has this inbuilt with pretty much the same functionality (including Bodypaint that you already have where it’s listed under Relax UV with two algorithms ABF/LSCM).
I think Z-Brush is great, but I’m not that happy with the release schedule. Given past performance I’m not holding my breath for windows GoZ any time soon (by soon I mean in the coming year or two).

Yeah it’s just pelt mapping, but it’s a pretty smooth implementation of it. As for the release schedule, yeah, I’m getting impatient waiting for 4.0 to release, but hey, it’s a FREE upgrade. I’ve been very happy w/ their policy of not charging for upgrades so far. Hopefully that doesn’t change and more companies go with this approach
