Blender pipeline single texture workaround

HI - Building a game character in Blender 2.5 - mesh and animations coming in fine, and a single texture works well for most of the character (clothing and skin) but I want to have another texture for the eyes, and be able to prepare them as part of the animations in Blender before exporting to fbx.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance,

It’s 100% better in all cases to just reapply inside unity. It’s better because you need to select the shader regardless - surely you will not be shipping with default diffuse shader on all your objects. You’ll be optimizing or changing the look, so get used to just exporting them without any materials at all and setting that part up - inside unity.

The development time is the same: you are just doing some jobs in unity instead of blender.

Hi - thanks for the suggestion - Yes that seems to be the only practical workaround. Within Unity I tried inserting spheres and parenting to the mesh - worked with one of animations, but messed up another, more complex one - however that’s probably a Blender issue with too many rotations, so I may try simplifying my animation, re-importing, and then attaching the accessories inside Unity. And certainly that will solve the materials issue!

Don’t forget, by placing materials in a Resources folder you make in the Project view, you’re able to use Resources.Load to load a material into a variable, then apply to many objects at the same time as they are used.

So you can automate it if you want - with a few variables and a bit of foresight - certainly for repetitive stuff!
