College?

I’m going to be a senior in highschool soon and am looking for a good college to go to, I want to go into game development, mainly the programming aspect of it as my major, but want to minor in 3d/2d game art. I was just wondering your guys’s views on it, a lot of you being game developers. Thanks.

Not to just throw a link out and walk away, but this was just asked earlier today here. Couple good answers, hope they help!

Depends on what you’re looking for, how much you’re willing to pay, where you live and if you’re willing to travel, etc…

Do some research on the games industry. I was all for game development and found my only options were way out of my price range for college. Not to mention that if you are in a pro game making team be prepared for 14 hours a day the last 4 months of production to ensure its finished on time(big name studios do this the last time I checked). Everything kinda fell apart for me as it turned out it wasn’t what I wanted anyway. I settled for a degree in Computer Science instead. Much more flexible degree too. I was also afraid that a degree in gaming would be hard to use for anything else if I couldn’t get into a major game studio. Just do a lot of research to make sure its what you want to do. Not to put gaming degrees to shame but really all the games being made now are from guys and gals who have degrees in very different subjects. These degrees are pretty new. Not saying they are bad, just make sure the path you choose is what you want to do/right for you.

I have always wanted to go to the University of Phoenix. Just because their commercials are so awesome.
