creating a free roam star wars space game (personal project!)

hello all, i am new to unity, but im pretty desperate to create a free roam star wars space game that spans the entire star wars saga! the features im aiming to create are:

  • free roaming a hangar, either on a planet on an outpost or on a cruiser!
  • a chance to see every star wars vehicle from through out the star wars film and tv franchise and canon and legends!
  • watch as star wars vehicles come to life before my very eyes!
  • meet star wars characters from star wars shows, films and books (including clones from EVERY clone legion and battalion!)
  • jump to hyperspace!
  • command MASSIVE fleet battles!!

i know it seems a lot for a beginner to handle! but like i said im pretty desperate to get started!
so i would like some help on starting this project please!

Sounds like you want to start a game project which is much too ambitious. Beginers usually totally underestimating the effort required to develop a real game. And when they finally realize, they will stop their efforts and drop their project, only wasting their time in the process.

If you are willing to learn how to make games, you should start creating a simple game like Tower Defense or Platformer. And you have to go through many tutorials and have to spend much time to do so. Also AI like ChatGPT or the like can help you for understanding code, correcting bugs, telling approaches to solve issues, etc. But I would stick to the tutorials first, use AI for assistance and ask in the forums thereafter.

This is a good place to start learning Unity:

Tutorials can also be find all over the Internet. Be aware that especially outdated ones may not work in current Unity versions anymore. Start with an LTS version of Unity like 2022.3 LTS.

When you finished some simple games, you can try make more advanced and complex games, because then you have some experience with game development and can even preestimate whether this is something you can handle or not.

A final note: If you publish something obviously related to the Star Wars Universe, which is both trademarked and copyrighted, you would be infringing on copyrights. You must obtain permission from Lucasfilm/Disney to do so.

Hello, I’m a Unity programmer with many years of experience, but I haven’t developed a game on my own. I’d love to work on a game with an inspired designer, and I’d love to work with you.
