Phasmophobia uses bought and recognizable assets and is very successful (many big youtubers and streamers play it). One of the assets it uses is Ghost Hunter Paranormal Investigative Pack PBR. Proof: 1) you can see them in the screenshots, 2) the developer of Phasmophobia (Dknighter2) left a review saying they used it in Phasmophobia. In addition, their review history shows other assets that can be seen in Phasmophobia. They also use Fuse for the characters, which are very recognizable and can be seen in many indie games.
PUBG uses/ed Unreal Marketplace assets and it did alright I think.
Inscryption lists all the assets in the credits section, and that also did decently I believe.

Funny I just realized something too. Youâre that same person who made a rant thread about an engine claiming that it was awful when in reality you spent a few days with it and didnât properly learn how to use it. Any initial thoughts I had to the subject of this thread are basically wasted. You donât want a discussion. You want a yes man to give you a like on your dribble. I recommend reddit. Said developer has a total of three successful games using Synty. Here are the other two. At a glance none of the negative reviews have mentioned the assets in the game. Meanwhile positive reviews have stated that the games look beautiful. Iâd always wondered who used Synty assets. Guess I know now.

You wonât start anti-asset revolution through forum post. Risks are known. It wonât stop people from using assets or becoming successful.
I did youâre obsessed with crediting an Asset artist with a successful game, an artist I didnât mention who didnât do the actual really successful game you came up with.
The obsession with this single artist I didnât even mention (look at the thread) and crediting them a game BattleBit they had no involvement in as far as anyone knows is truly desperate and comical. There are still no examples of a even moderately successful game (weâve been through games like Perfect Heist not even making a decent living read the thread) and the odds given the number of those whose dreams Iâve obviously offended thinking they will be successful just on this thread is sad really.

I just went down the rabbit hole of their post history (including their older account @anon_86335656 ), and what youâre seeing in this thread is consistent for them as far back as 2012. Everyone is wasting their time responding as theyâve never been willing to engage in an actual discussion.
Iâve posted 115 posts in the same time you have posted 19,408 that says it all. Even the most basic and well known contrary opinion to yours sends you into a background checking spiral in an attempt to make me say something you are obviously itching to flag or get one of the others who squat on this forum to flag because they canât take a contrary opinion in usual style.
This post gives a contrary reasonable opinion to the usual belligerent posters who dominate this forum, a la Steam posters who I pointed out in my original post sit there all day trying to beat game devs into giving their game away. This post is not here to agree with these group of people it is here for those they try to influence daily.
It is a well know issue itâs so well known a Google search brings up 40,000,000 results. Having an opinion that itâs a bad thing to do isnât exactly as controversial as the belligerent forum squatters who dominate these forums are saying. Even a simple wiki page gives more information than forum squatters here want posted.

If that is true you must have a learning disability and you really ought to just save yourself some trouble and quit already. Itâs not the models, it is you home dawg. Itâs fine, making games is not for everybody. We all have something we are good at and have to fail at many different things before we find it. The only real failure is being a whiny loser who causes issues for other people.

Bro thought he could grab random assets from the store and become a millionaire. Calls successful indie game devs as not even making a decent living because they donât have 500k reviews. Ignores the numerous successful games linked and pretends that no such games are posted here. Gamedev is not a get rich quick scheme. Manage your expectations.
This whole thread can be simply explained. Just because the Asset Store has free and paid assets doesnt mean you can just buy them, and throw them into another re-sellable asset. Assets are there for developers to use, but make them your own by customization, an aid to speed up development time.
I have never bought an asset and Not modified it heavily, or tore it apart (changed animations, textures, mats, models, code, etc.). If you wont put the time in to a project/asset, then your gonna get called out, every time.
How about you spend some time to customize, make it look a certain way, make it look orig. Take some pride in what you do. You got thisâŚ
The problem with using assets is in case where they are copyright infringing (ripped from other games?) and you have to rip them out of your game and replace them at some point, wasting time.
Other than that, some smartass will come and call your game an asset flip anyway, regardless of whether you actually use any ready made assets or not.
Hell, I remember about a year ago how somebody here was being accused of asset flipping for a game they made almost every asset for from the ground up.
There probably isnât a game made today that hasnât used some pre-made asset in some form. From indie to AAA. Itâs just how things are. And this is true not just of video games.
Anyone who watches anime would know that particular stock cicada background noise that gets used in pretty much every anime known in existance. Though no one would use that alone to consider it a bad production.
Always gonna be someone who calls your game an asset flip and youâre wasting your time caring about it.
And there are plenty of games that are asset flips that are well recieved. Games like House Flipper (ironic name) for example.
