Don't Buy Recognizable Asset Store Assets, It Will Be Seen As An Asset Flip

Again House Flipper does exactly what I said in my OP, they use realistic generic assets that no one sees them as sytlized or different enough to care or know that they were bought or made please read my OP you will see what I was saying is exactly this.

And although I didn’t mention the low poly style, it is clear that one of the reasons the artwork in a low poly style is popular amongst devs because they believe the artwork is less distinctive and less recognizable although personally I wouldn’t use it as is as a recognizable large part of a game myself.

I don’t really care about the specifics of what you’re saying.

Everyone knows House Flipper is a game made up primarily of asset store assets. Just the gameplay is interesting and unique enough that they don’t care.

Again, gameplay is key. Visuals always take a backseat.

I’m surprised this train wreck of a thread hasn’t been locked yet.

I think the real question here is “who gives a fuck?”

This is the same as people going “if people see the Unity logo, they’ll think your game is cheap and bad and won’t buy it!” but those people were never likely to be customers in the first place, just people looking for something to complain about. Surely the OP must relate to that on some level.

Oh here we go the threats of I’ll get your thread locked typical.

OMG someone with an actual thought out and interesting comment without being immediately flamed or inflaming, well done. Yes I do exactly what you say I sometimes buy some assets and use parts of them in an unrecognizable way, I would never use what was pre-assembled.

I think you were taken in by the flaming flamers on this thread my OP was saying vey much what you just posted.

“Just a shout out not to waste your money on assets that might be recognized by users, if you do that on Steam in a game it would be recognized by everyone in the world as this asset store asset, you will just get everyone on Steam hammering you, that’s what they do - you think the Forums here are harsh, they just hammer you to make you give your game away and using something like this leaves you very vulnerable, it’s too easily recognized, if it looks real and ordinary and not stylized or distinctive then no one can tell you bought it and hammer you on Steam, that’s just the way Steam is I can’t help the way they are. The more real and more ordinary and less recognizable the better then who knows if you made it or you bought it, otherwise it’s a waste of your money if they might guess you bought it they will hammer you, it is what it is.”

Some people do. I’m not a fan of easily recognizable visuals, but I likely represent a minority slice of users, and a dev can still earn truckload of money from people to whom that does not matter.

So perhaps the question can be worded as “do people that give a F*** represent a significant portion of potential earning. And even if they do, do you care”.

Locked, since this is a dead-end.

It should go without saying but this is completely unacceptable behaviour. Banned

A reminder to everyone to keep things civil and respectful.
