MFG i’m so happy seeing this, most of the time on this forum most of the users lower my hopes with unity, but then i see your work and is so inspiring and kick ass, this increases my motivation with unity and it makes me remember some words that i always say: ā€œis not the tool, is the users and their imagination/hard workā€
This post make my day for sure, i’m definitely following this, you guys rock, now:
Do yourself a favor and work in performance right now, if you leave that work for later it will became a mess i’m telling you and i’m working on a simple low poly game -.-"
Also i’m sharing this on facebook, more people needs to see this

Thank you for the kind words, we’ll try to keep it up!

Regarding technical debt - oh yeah, I feel the time is coming
Geometry optimization, baking stuff - we do have a bad habit of shelving these things.
We’ll take on this problem soon.

haha Lol, that is a very important task, because as a gamer if a game looks good but the performance is weak, then for me, the game is useless. Now i have to ask (because i’m so skeptical too) are you guys buying some assets or something like that? (i’m not against the asset store at all)

Yeah, I agree, poor performance can easily kill your game.

We’d even like to, but there are almost no assets that suit our art style and world. Plus it’s HDRP. So nope, we do all by ourselves.

Thanks a lot!

We got quite a lot of feedback and decided to change the protagonist completely.
The previous one was too wholesome for an immortal guy.

The style looks very good and I like the new concept of the protagonist better, however there is something in his eyes that makes him look weak and sad (subjective impression). He may need a little bit more ā€œbadassā€ in the impression of his eyes imo.

Thanks! Well yes, the idea is that he’s not badass but rather broken, lost faith, addicted to substances etc. Sorta low point for future character development.
I guess the closest example of this type of character is the protagonist from the Paranormal series: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt12411074/

I saw this game on YouTube, and it immediately caught my eye. I love this kind of environment. However, I noticed there haven’t been any updates about the development for over a year. Has it been abandoned?

Hey!

No, we’ve been working on a demo all the last year.

We decided we hold off with all the promo videos/screenshots for now since they take us too much time, so we figured we’d better focus on the demo, and when everything’s ready we’d come back with something tangible and playable.

We actually thought we’d finish the demo this summer but given all that long daily power shutdowns (we often have power like only 3-4 hours per day), its gonna be ready… well probably this winter i suppose… if there’s no any new massive missile attacks.

Plus we switched to UE5, it also took some time with my c# only background.

So yeah, it’s not abandoned, we work pretty much every day when we can, we’ve just kinda temporarily given up on the updates.

i can not say i’m surprised but a bit sad because i wanted to know how far you can go with HDRP… i hope to play that demo soon anyways!

Well i’d say pretty far, unreal doesn’t magically make everything like next gen.
In my opinion iHDRP is quite on par with unreal, you can achieve the same graphical fidelity as with the basic UE.
Yes, nanite is a big thing, and then there’s tht new fancy tesselation, but we don’t even utilize all the new features. For example we dont use lumen, even tho it looks kinda cool but its too expensive and not very needed in our case where almost everything is indoors.
