im looking at tablets and cant afford a cintiq so i was wondering how good the bamboo is is it usable? also how far off of the screen will it still react i wanto get a bamboo then put a screen ontop. and how big is it i actualy couldent find how many inch the touch pannel is. are there any cheap alternitives to the cintiq that are dramaticaly cheaper? thanks 
this is related to unity as i will use it for gimp and sculp tris thenuse what i make in them in unity.
I like my bamboo fun A5 size, but I’m only a hobbiest so that does not meant that much I guess
go with the bamboo to start with. And no you cant put a screen over your bamboo tab lol. Nice idea though xD
I own a bamboo and it worked great but I lend it to a friend and when I got it back the pen didn’t seam to react as well as it did before. Not really sure what happend. So it works fine for drawing/painting etc but it appears that it is fragile.
The Bamboo’s pretty good by all accounts. I haven’t used one myself but know plenty of folk who have and they all say it’s a good piece of kit.
You won’t be able to put a screen on top - the active distance is about 1cm or so and you’ll have an impossible time lining it up 1:1. You won’t find any Cintiq alternatives that are worthwhile, either; tablets that aren’t made by Wacom tend to be pretty crappy in comparison (Wacom really is the bees knees).
But there’s no real need for a Cintiq. You’ll find that you’ll very quickly get used to drawing on the pad and it happening on your monitor. I had a Cintiq12WX for a while and I sold it and bought an Intuos4 medium in the end - the small screen resolution’s just not worth the cost unless you splash out for the 21 or 24 inch versions and they’re seriously expensive.
I just got myself Bamboo Pen, still playing around with it but I must admit it’s nice. The price was the best for the quality. Never been able to draw such smooth spirals before 
I’ve used a Bamboo and I do like it. If your looking for a larger tablet, go with the VisTablet 12" (that’s what I use). If you really want a Cintiq, you can get a Manhattan 9x12 and put it into a 15 inch monitor with a thin acrylic covering as not to scratch the screen.

why jump from cintique to bamboo your completely missing the intuos line of wacom tablets - get one, they are amazing.
Just get a bamboo, they are only like 60 bucks and it will serve you very well for years. If you are an indie, you probably don’t need anything better; your money is spent more wisely on other things.
They’re also very expensive
bamboo is fine, my long-suffering artist uses one. I’ve promised him a cintique if the app does well enough for it and there’s tears of joy in his eyes. Or it might just be tears of RSI, poor fellow.
You still need keyboard to use tablet properly right? Also can be tablet used for all processes in asset designing or only sculpting and texturing?
A tablet from wacom is just a fancy pad with a pen that makes it easier to do things like drawing and sculpting etc. With Unity you’d probably want to use a mouse and keyboard.

i use a very unorthodox method as graphics tablet, i use my ipad with the mobile mouse app and a home made stylus ( actually a regular metallic pen with its cap on and a little piece of cloth to avoid scratching the screen ) and works good, it works just as any commercial ipad stylus on sale for 30-40 dollars, it doesnt have fancy features as pressure sensing or things like that but hey, its what i already have
dedicated graphic tablets seem fun but very expensive and take a lot to get used to, to draw on nothing and not being able to see what you are drawing in the tablet
Get a Bamboo Fun Medium size one
If you have a large desk take a large wacom - becaus of the scaling between hand movement and screen. I used a Wacom Intuos 3, but i will upgrade very soon. Maybe you can get a second hand one to try out if you like working that way.
Bamboo Fun medium is also very cool for the start.
And yes, you can use a gt for everything graphical, but actually the configuration could take some hours.
start with the bamboo then go to a cintiq because thats what i will be doing
I love my bamboo, go for middle range, Intuos4 but if you cant afford that just get the A5 bamboo pen and touch
