Locomotion System questions/suggestions

Sorry for the questions or suggestions, but I’m a complete newbie to this engine. Maybe my suggestions can help the docs or be answered.
Thanks…

I wasn’t able to see the normal character motor script until I actually loaded one of the demo scenes.

“Add a Normal Character Motor script (located at Assets > Character Controller Scripts > NormalCharacterMotor) to the character to handle movements.”… is actually under the project folder inside Character Controller Scripts.

The part where it says to add a, “Leg Controller” to the Hero, could be consistent by saying it is also available under the Project folder/ Locomotion system folder.

“Drag the character’s idle animation onto the variable called Grounded Pose.” ,… [Remove this because drag and drop doesn’t work.]

“Expand the Legs array on the Leg Controller component. This array should hold all the legs but for now just set the length to 1.” Should say Size, not length.

“Find the hip bone (upper leg bone) in the skeleton hierarchy of the character for the given leg and drag it to the variable called Hip. For the Hero character it is Hero > Reference > Hips > LeftUpLeg (for the left leg)”… is really confusing.

I would say something like this,."Under Hero/Reference, find the LeftUpLeg and drag it onto the Hip variable under Element 0 within the Leg Controller Script.

“When satisfied with the first leg, set the length of the Legs array to the number of legs that your character has”,… should say Size once again… very confusing otherwise or rename it to NUMBER OF LEGS.

"You must still set the correct Hip, Ankle and Toe transforms for each leg though. Do it the same way you did it for the first leg. "

soooo,… do I add another Leg Controller script to the character?

I’m stuck at this point.

thanks

I split this post from the FPS tutorial thread as these questions/suggestions are for a separate project.

Oops, sorry about that.

No, what you see in the project view is only the contents of the Assets folder. The project folder also contains the Library folder and sometimes a Temp folder.

Again, it says “Assets > Locomotion System > LegController” because that is the actual path. The Assets folder is not the same as the project folder.

It work here…?

You’re right. This will be fixed the next time I do an upload.

The reason for the phrasing is the the guide should be useful for other characters than just the Hero one, so I’m sticking to only mentioning the Hero character as an example.

The size of an array is always called Size in Unity, so I can’t rename it to something else. I will change the tutorial here too so say Size instead of length though.

No, specify the data for the other legs in the other elements of the Legs array (that you was just instructed to resize in the previous sentence).

Hope that helps.

Hmm… I’m on windows, maybe its different, no Locomotion System under Assets, but it is under Component/Scripts/… which still works of course. And the other way i got it to originally work was from loading one of your base scenes, which put it under the Project folder.
thx

Ok… Got most of it working,… still can’t drag n drop "drag the animation clip called Idle1 onto the Animation variable of the element. ",… there. (Though I can pick it from the list drop down which is fine)
And “Add a Leg Animator script component to the character (located at Assets > Locomotion System > LegAnimator).”…, is still under the Component/Scripts and works fine.

And, ,… its working and he’s walking around. I gotta say, I really do love this engine. Great work.

I also have to say that I have the Torque engine, (before the windows version of Unity was out), and I could not even get a tenth of this much done. No offense to the Torque guys, but I would have needed to be a programmer to figure out the rest of it.
Unity rocks guys.

Ah, you are talking about the menu while I’m referring to the folder path. I’ll try to make it more clear that I’m referring to folders and not the menu structure, and also describe the alternative way to get the components through the menu while I’m at it.
