so i have decided to jump on to the mac bandwagon to develop some content for the iphone.just wondering what the minimum spec max mini i should get so that i can run unity iphone
i dont have a lot of money to spend on hardware
if someone could point me towards so refurbhised units online i would be keen to buy
Any of them will work fine, as long as they have an Intel processor (not PPC). The older models with the GMA 950 graphics will not be able to use the occlusion culling feature, though that may not be a problem depending on the kind of games you want to do. (Personally I haven’t had the need for it yet, which is good because I do have the GMA 950 in mine…)
Apple themselves sell refurbished models with warranty… check their website for link. I recently bought a MacBook with newer nVidia 9400 gpu for 600 euro and it’s spotless.
Well I have a mac mini machine with 2 GHz CPU and NVidia 9400. If you add some gigs of RAM this machine will be suitable for most not so heavy tasks including Unity iPhone + Xcode + tools.
yeah same here - it is my first original mac - and stopped me wanting to deal with my previous Hackintosh troubles immediately  . For a few hundred bucks you get a machine that is totally capable for anything on iPhone. I would’nt like to render 3d animations with it but for this tasks it’s definitely great…
And yes - more memory than the 1GB it ships with, is a must…
You must have at least an Intel one with OSX 10.5 if you ever want to do iphone development.
If you want occlussion culling from unity it must NOT have an intel graphic chip, but an nvidia one
additionally G4 can not upgrade to 10.6 as the old ppc cpus are deprecated and don’t get new software any longer.
