hi please i have a question if i have a lot of scene in my project for example if i have 100 scene will it have effect on the size of the application ?
Yes.
Depends on the application architecture.
I have a number of visualisation projects with a common loading scene containing menus and navigation assets and hundread or more geometry + lighting + texture scenes loaded from assetbundles. So the application size is around some 4 MB, while the assetbundle scenes sizes range from 2 to 100 MB.
No. Scenes are just small text files. They are pretty tiny. A scene with several hundred unique objects in one of my games comes in at just under half a MB.
File size will be primarily dictated by large binary files. So sounds, textures, and to a lesser extent, models.
Assuming that you have a fixed number of assets like 3d models, textures, scripts. Then if the scenes are just the combinations of these assets and do not use baked lightmaps which could additionally contribute - the app size doesn’t have to be much affected by pure number of scenes.
I was curious about this so I made a new empty project and built it with one scene and then with 50 and the exe was in fact, the same size but the data folder was considerably larger. Not 50 times larger though - like roughly twice. So the exe doesn’t seem to change but the data folder sure does.
With empty scenes? That surprises me. How does this compare to adding other types of asset?
And what absolute numbers are we talking? Doubling a couple of megabytes is hardly impressive.
Yeah, completely empty… well, they have a camera. No scripts or anything in the project at all. I deleted the project so I can’t give exact sizes but who counts bytes any more anyway so I rounded off to the nearest meg. The exe was 18 megs. The single scene data folder was 10 megs and the 50 scene folder was 18.
I know my game with 50 scenes is much smaller when I only build five scenes as opposed to the complete game.
