Reducing App Size

Hello,

My goal is to reduce the size to under 100MB so that potential players wont need to be connected to wifi in order to download it.

Now, I just archived my game on XCode, and noticed that the estimated size is 170.6 MB. The thing I am having a really hard time understanding is that APK of the exact same game is ~44MB. The gap is so big that I must be doing something wrong, potentially on XCode.

What are some of the things I can do to reduce the size of an app for iOS?

Thanks!

When Unity makes the build, it’ll report in the editor log the size of the various assets. I’d assume the textures are not compressed when you make your iOS build, but are compressed on Android.

Textures were my biggest killer. In the end I addressed each texture asset individually dropping down first to 16 bit Format and making sure that was ok colour wise. Then dropping down the max size until it looked crappy and then back up one so it looked good. This gave me the best compression for each image/texture. Also some simple textures I could drop down the max size quite a bit. Every little bit counts. I got an app that was 206 Meg down to 75 doing each image individually testing on the device as I went to make sure it all looked great and I never went too far.
