Screen Freezing Phenomenon When Unity Project Opens

Hello, I am developing Unity in Korea.

Please understand that I am not good at English, so I leave a question with a translator.

Problem:
About two weeks ago, when the Unity project I was working on tried to open in the daytime, the computer screen froze and didn’t work.

  • The same symptoms appear when running Rider IDE.

This means that problems arise when opening an existing Unity project or running Ryder IDE.

Unity Hub, Editor, Project System Specifications:
Unity Hub Version: 3.7.0
Unity Editor Version: 2021.3.20f1
Unity Project Version: 2021.3.20f1

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64 비트
Motherboard: MAGB760 Tomahawk Wi-Fi
BIOS: A.30
CPU: Intel(R) Core™ i7-14700kf
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti
RAM: G Skill Intl F5-5000J3636F16G DDR5-4800 16GB X 2 (32GB)

How you tried to solve the problem:

  1. Reinstall Unity Hub and Editor
  • I removed and reinstalled all files and folders related to Unity Hub and Editor.
  1. Reinstall Windows after System Formatting

  2. Initialize BIOS settings

  3. Memory Integrity Check

  4. Disk Integrity Check

  5. Reinstall Driver

  6. Check the System Event Log

  • Error event: Kennel processor power

    • ID: 34
  • Message:
“The (0-27) processors in Group 0-27 are unable to manage idle power due to firmware issues. Please contact your computer manufacturer for updated firmware.”

  • To resolve the above error and error event logs, you have disabled the Intel Speed Step-related options after initializing the BIOS settings.

I tried the above method, but I get the same symptoms.

Looking at the Kennel Processor Power event happening, I think it’s a hardware issue, but I’m posting it on the forum because I think it might be a Unity software issue because other games or programs are working normally.

If you have any information or log files you need to solve the problem, please let me know how to check the log. I will upload the log content and share it right away.

That clearly indicates a system issue. Try updating your BIOS because if this refers to the CPU firmware the BIOS update usually also installs CPU firmware updates.

It worked fine with the same BIOS version, can it cause a problem all of a sudden? Shouldn’t it happen before if it’s a BIOS firmware issue?

I have no idea. I noticed that this error isn’t from the log but system events. So maybe check first what that error actually means, perhaps it’s nothing of concern.

If you can open other Unity projects, then try deleting the Library folder first. The crash may have left some corrupt cached data behind.

I try to open a project after removing unnecessary folders, including library folders, the same symptoms appear.

  • Attach the editor log.
