There are limitations on adult content? Where?
Ever heard of the lottery? It’s a gamble based on spending money on it, and the governments here use it to fund education among other things.
And if the only thing keeping you from killing yourself is that it hasn’t been condoned by a politician, you’ve got problems.
I’m guessing UT is doing this because they want to avoid tangling with the law, and not because they want to enforce their own artistic subjectivities.
That being said, it is very interesting how certain games can be creatively expressed, and others can’t.
- Want to mass murder people and snipe their heads off? Ok!
- Want to gamble some money? Not ok unless you purchase something special.
- Want to do some AO love? Generally not ok … You can be a fighter but not a lover.
Our society is strange …
Got that, yeah. I’m okay with how UT handles stuff, and I am quite glad a gambling licence exists, even when it comes at an extra.
This:
You wouldn’t be in trouble for breaking the Unity license. The issue would be a lack of compliance with gambling regulations. They never mentioned it before because it wasn’t something they openly supported. Due to popular demand they’ve changed that, but the nebulous nature of that industry’s regulations means it needs its own license.
Back when the license changed I too thought it was an odd restriction. But when I learned about the legalities and requirements of the industry I got to understand pretty quick that it wasn’t a change in position. In the past, gambling customers had to work out special deals with Unity anyway so Unity could work with them to meet the regulations. Putting it in the license is just being more transparent about how it had to work anyway, and also making it clear that Unity (unlike some) is open to the discussion.
Aye, and lets also not forget that just because it’s a game engine doesn’t mean everything done with it is a game.
Remember that when the topic came up at first there was an outcry on the forums about it as well.
It’s been two years already: Unity to charge significantly more and possibly royalties for games with "gambling"? - Industries - News & General Discussion - Unity Discussions
The concerns were mostly because people didn’t understand that the gambling license will only be mandatory for actual gambling which centers around winning or losing money. Not about a slot machine that dispenses extra lives in your 2D game ![]()
Oh, you don’t have to go far to find a politician who completely misunderstood computer games and tried to regulate even that ![]()
No there isn’t.
Correct! I remember this well, in short, in order for Unity to be used in this industry legally, we had to go through a tonne of certifications and so did the software (I honestly don’t know what exactly but I know it’s expensive).
If you or your company are making a game that involves gambling, winning or losing REAL MONEY, you will need a license (which is expensive) and done through your government. If you don’t have one, you could get in deep deep doo doo, I imagine with giant men from that show Las Vegas, but probably worse.
Oh yeah, can we please stay away from moral discussions, we all know it’s not going to go down well, let’s stick to helping princeWIGUAN and anyone else with confusions.
There are a few companies around with real money mobile gaming systems that say gambling rules to not apply to them because they have bets on games of skill only. For example GameColony.com quote this:
Skillz even offers a Unity SDK. Do these systems require the Unity gambling licence?
I have no idea.
On the adult content topic, where the hell is poser content actually used? I don’t think I’ve ever encountered it in real life, but then you see literally thousands of different highly sexual models on their site and even an adult poser content site that has some truly disturbing content… So people must be buying it, but for what? lol
Ironically, adult content, R-rated or 18SX stuffs is ILLEGAL in my country, Malaysia.
But… GAMBLING IS LEGAL.
It’s just… EXPENSIVE and the government introduce 10% of gambling tax + 6% of goods and service tax.
Since the client is serious, I don’t think it will be a problem for them to apply for the gambling license for this project.
This is a game, but it works like in casino.
You buy chips using real money to play.
You then can turn back those chips into real money.
We, the agency making money by getting a percentage of your winnings after deducting the 10% gambling tax and 6% goods and service tax from you.
However, there’s no reply from the Vice President of gambling license yet. ![]()
How about cloud license? Why would we need a separate license for cloud streaming? I don’t see any regulations needed, and I’m using the PC build
