so I have may ideas for a game but not sure how or which one I should go with…
Is it a case of following your heart/dream or throwing something that the public want?
I myself would love to create an “Adventure Game” with a fully explorable world, beautiful landscapes, puzzles, not to much combat and most of all, a decent story.
Do people still want to play these games?
Fantasy or realistic?
I am just trying to get an idea of which direction to take as I pretty much am ready to start my first journey. I am not bothered by the length of time it takes to create and I will learn as I go along.
I know the size and difficulty of making my dream game is a huge task but I am sure at some point I will find other developers that want a similar game and will join ranks.
To begin with, make the simplest games you can think of. Grow your games as your skill and experience improve, and as you find other people to work with on larger projects.
@angrypenguin - Thanks for the reply! I have been working on a few smaller projects for the past year now. Nothing that has been released or completed mind you.
To be honest at the moment I am not really looking to find others to help on the project, I am merely trying to establish what sort of games people want to play. I mean the majority of under 16’s would probably say “a game like cod, but different!”, I would rather establish the trend of real gamers before diving in with a long term project.
However responding to your original post, I do still like that type of game. I by no means started small, I jumped right in the deep end, I highly do NOT recommend this method if you are not truly passionate about game development and really like a challenge.
My general stubbornness and the love of creation of games got me this far and to the skill level I am today. I never started simple, no pong or very basic game, I chose a game that I could build on as my skills became more advanced.
Thanks… I actually started on some smaller games so I could get to know the engine really. I like yourself am willing to jump into a major project simply because I like a challenge and would rather learn from mistakes.
