TextMeshPro to replace default Unity Text?

I assumed when Unity bought TMP, that the point was to replace its default Text component and integrate it fully into the editor. It’s been about a year, and it’s still not even included in the installer. Are there still plans to eventually integrate it into Unity itself?

A new version of TMP will be included as a default package with Unity 2018.1. This new version should be included in the second or third beta of 2018.1. See the following [post](http://digitalnativestudios.com/forum/index.php?topic=1716.0 https://discussions.unity.com/t/687771 ) for more details.

Since many Unity users still rely on the legacy TextMesh and UI.Text for their projects, these text components will remain available alongside the TMP text components.

Besides continuing to support TMP users, my focus has been on the new Text System which will eventually replace the old text system and text generator used in Unity.

Besides full integration, the new Text System will include support for OpenType font features which is essential for proper layout of non Latin based languages and fancy / complex text layout, a hybrid dynamic font system and other smaller features along with improved performance.

While working on this new text system, I continue to be mindful of how we will transition from existing text components including TMP to this new system.

Estimated ETA of all this? Because it’s been a year since it was announced that a integration will happen and in 2018.1 we will see a first integration but only with the original TMPro not that new system.

Thanks.
